I have followed the boards suggestions and have gone with 30 X 9.50 tires. I just had them installed on what I think are stock rims ( they have center caps) but, the rims (wheel weights)are rubbing on the tie rod ends. Is there something wrong??? Do I need to get new tie rod ends? or did the shop do some thing wrong??? Do I need to get spacers for the offset or what, This is frustrating!!!!

i am not sure if they are stock rims or not but eather way if ya want to keep the rim s have them use stick on wheel weights instead of the rim edge ones. i use them on my cj as i peel the rim ones off on the rocks :D

I have never heard of that happening. The wheel weights? On the outer edges of the rim? Hitting the tie rod? That's un-effin believable.

Have you jacked it up with the jack on the spring and spun the tire in all 3 positions (hard left, hard right, and straight ahead) to verify where it's rubbung?

Are you sure it's a wheel weight and not the tire rubbing on the frame?

If what you say it true, take it back to the tire place and pitch a fit until they do it right (and stand there while they work on it). If they tell you that you can't be in the service bay while they are doing work then insist that they do the work in a bay with the door open so you can stand right outside.

Were those rims on the jeep before??? Did the have mount the wheel wieghts on the inside?? If the wieghts are the only problem there are alturnitve. Stick on wieghts on the inner surface of the rim, internal pad balancing the tires, equal (it is poored in through the valve stem) or simply moving the wieghts to the outside.

The shop did not put the wheels back on right. The wheel weights go on the rim, which I am assuming you were running on the vehicle before the new tires. 30 x 9.50s are not very big, but that shouldn't matter, even if you had huge tires on there, the distance from the rim to the tie rod end would still be the same.

Sounds like those wheels do not have the correct offset.........

My stock wheels are very close to the tierod end, so I could see this maybe happening. If it's not too much of a rub, you can use spacers between the hub and the wheel, these are not the thick bolt on kind, but thinner 1/4 inch kind that may give you just the little room you need, or change the wights to the stick on kind that goes iside the wheel like suggested.

I have stock Jeep aluminum slots on my '80 Wagoneer. And my weights rubbed on my tie rod ends as well. I just let the tie rods wear the lead down until they no longer rubbed smile.gif There is very little clearance with the factory slots.

yes they can rub the tie rods if they use the wrong weights on them, it has happend to mine and they had to use thinner ones on it. if you got stock mag rims there is not much room back there. ;)

Thanks guys,
I will get on the tire shop and have them put a stick-on wheel weight. I see that I am not the only one with this problem. I was just afaraid somethng else was worn out. Thanks for your input. :D

I had the same problem with my factory 5 slots, wheel weights slowly shaved off the lead until it cleared. Went and had the tape weights put on :D
More common than you think
