This has been my slowest adventure yet. I started talking about it last year (early), and have been stalled. In order to get this moving forward, I have to be able to leave my rig with the shop in question for at least a few weeks, so they can measure, remeasure, test fit, take everything apart, etc. Once I get my rig driveable, I will be doing just that....but I still feel that it won't be until around april or may before that happens. When it does, it will be well worth it....but again, it will be some time between now and then. Feel free to email me at grand_wagoneer@lycos.com if you have questions, or want updates, etc. Thanks.

I've been working with a mail-order shop to get my rear seat recovered. basically, he's gonna send me fabric samples, and I'm gonna send him my rear skins and $100 check. then he's gonna send me the new stuff. I should have it covered in the next 2 weeks or so. I can't imagine front seats cost much more.

there's also an online place that specializes in leather aftermarket uphoholstry. katzkins.com or some such?

I talked to a guy at Katzkin Interiors and their company makes slip on new leather covers for seats. I asked him about the Grand Wagoneers and he said he had never been asked about it so he won't do it. I e-mailed him back and asked him what it would take to get something like this done. He said if I could get 30 people who want to do it he would do it for us. They come in an assortment of colors (see website at www.katzkin.com (http://www.katzkin.com) ) and are very nice quality from what I see. Cost would depend on a few items but he said that front and rear seats, console and door panels (he wasn't sure about that one) would run about $550-$650 complete. Is anyone interested in doing this?

5-600 for front, rear, and panels doesnt sound to bad. He wants 30 jeepsters together to get him interested in looking at this project right? hmmm I wonder just how many Hummer people had to pool together to get him interested.
Hummer people - that made me chuckle, sorry.

is he talking full leather or the combination fabric/fabric/carpet or nylon.

My local shop said they'd do each seat with new leather for $600, and use the same fabric. Said it would look just like new.

If the leather isn't ripped, it can be conditioned and brought back.

I just recently got a quote on having my front seats redone and the quote was $550 per seat. The cloth section is really expensive...almost $70.00 a yard and it is becoming harder to find.

If you can find a source to redo the entire interior for $600 in leather count me in! I'm going to redo my two front seats sometime this year.

socalcruiser, how can they bring them back? what do they do? i have alot of wear lines all across the botoms of the seats. by the way i went to your homepage and the wag you have the pics of in it is exacly the same as the one i'm in the process of buying. looks great. what is that color called anyway.

I just had the front bench seat re-done in a local shop in San Diego. It was a vinyl seat with cloth insets, rather fancy texture, turquoise color, and with a bunch of little details that needed to be preserved.

they've redone the seat - welded up the broken seat frame, repadded it, and re-covered it, for $175. I wished immediately I had the rear seat re-done as well.

Another shop in San Diego, about a mile away, quoted me about $500 for a single leather bucket (I wanted to re-cover the Lincoln Mk7 seats I have in the Cherokee).

That would give you an upper and a lower bound, I guess. Personally, I'd do away with the leather, and settle on some good cloth. Denim would even be better!

I got my seats in my jeep redone for $400 dollars for all the seats and I had them done in two tone to match the interior and exterior of the jeep. It was done locally and done well look around and you should be able to find one that would do it cheap.

sandmanb- I think it's called Fawn Gold.

The leather can be reconditioned with:

http://leatherique.com/

I plan on doing this to all the cracks when the weather gets warmer. The oil is supposed to make the leather soft again. I haven't tried it yet, but the guys on the Mercedes Benz forum swear by it.

$150 to have the leather rear seat covers from a 2000 Le Sabre altered to fit over my rear bench. Came out alright. Didn't include the cost of the Le Sabre seat though.

Sandmanb - What color seats do you have? Mine are all cordovan. I've noticed that the sand beige interiors are very prone to u/v damage. I have accumulated a group of cordovan interior components from late model GW's. I have a pair of fronts, and a rear which could be used for patterns. I planed to keep them for repair sections. A good auto- upholsterer should be able to remove the cover, cut-out the damaged section and stitch-in a replacement. The Bedord Cord cloth inserts are very difficult to find. It is a very old style auto fabric in difficult colors. Lexol is a superb preservative. If more people would use it regularly on their leather, they would save themselvs a lot of exspense. I plan to buy a 1989 black/cordovan for $500, which has massive frame/floor rot, but a superb interior - just to have the seats, headliner, carpeting, etc. available (plus mechanicals).
