I took my Pop's 91 GW out for a test drive because he said its been acting up for the last few weeks. I know the rear main seal needs to be replaced because of the oil spill on the garage floor but this is what I noticed last night and was hoping that a few of you would have some suggestions of what I should do to try and remedy this problem. When I come to a red light and fully stop the oil pressure goes WAY down to just a couple hairs above zero, after its down this low it hesitates/stumbles getting back up to speed. If I throw it in to neutral and keep my foot on the gas to keep the oil pressure around 30 then I dont have a problem with taking off. Any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks everyone
Chuck

unplug the stock (electric) oil pressure gauge and hook up a mechanical one and see if it's the same..

Yes? Oil pump is prolly going out...
No? stock oil pressure gauge is shot...

Is the ignition timing correct? This happened to me once and at idle the pressure would drop dramatically and would hesitate on take off. I was about 10 degrees off then.
