I have read the in-depth study and I am aware that frams suck and everything... nevertheless my calipers say that the oil inlet is the same as PH25. I think it'll fit instead of the PH25 that is the spec for my year.
The reason I ask it that the ph8a is substantially longer and that that means more filter element and more oil capacity.

just wondering,
tia,
Robert

yes, i believe that is what i have done in the past(with my old '84 GW) when the book calls for that smaller filter for later years, but just use an quiv. filter, not fram smile.gif they do suck

thx for the replies.
I went thru the book a little but did not find a vehical that it is used on. I asked about a reverse lookup on the part number, and the counter guy had never heard of such a thing.

Check out a Carquest parts dealer. They can find a Wix filter to do the same job your looking for. I have a longer filter on my GW that I got from them. SOrry I don't have the number handy.

Geez, havn't you guys read this? http://minimopar.net/oilfilterstudy.html
Why on earth are you using fram? No offense, but I'm curious why when everything else is way better...

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have used them for 20+ years without any problems. I run a PH11 on both the 360 and the 327.

I think I had a Scout that used the PH8A on the 345. 1977. I haven't used Frams in many years however, due to the reports on them.

The PH8A size fits mosts Chrysler V-8's, too, big and small block. And a lot of Fords. Super common filter...

Here are some cross references I think are accurate. Check your local listings:

Fram PH8A
AC PFL1A
Hastings LF115
Purolator L30001
Wix 51515

an Intact filter w/ the dirt and sludge still on the correct side of filter, and a valve at the top that was still functioning.

works for me.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'm gonna gofor the ph11.

Yes I did read the first line. As a matter of fact I reread the whole post twice to make sure I was not posting the obvious. I was addressing the others who may not have seen the study. To each his own.. I know what I use and don't use....To each his own....

Only use Pure One but after the write-up might spring for the Mobil-1 to match the only oil I run. :D

Who makes the K&N filters???

THanks everyone for the replies, I just switched to synthetic, and will be replacing the oil filter every 500 miles (or less) for the next couple thousand miles and wanted the largest, cheapest filter available. I'm driving to the east coast very soon and figger I'll change the filter at least 3 times on the trip, maybe every 8 hrs on a 32 hr trip.

especially after reading this...b/c I did not flush it.

from this page

http://www.performanceoiltechnology.com/convertingtoamsoil.htm

AMSOIL Engine Flush: In a new engine with less than approximately 20,000 miles it is not imperative that AMSOIL Engine Flush be used. In an engine with more than 20,000-30,000 miles and beyond, that has been using petroleum oil the entire time, we highly recommend using the AMSOIL Engine Flush. What the engine flush will do is remove the petroleum oil sludge & varnish deposits from your engine and properly prepare your engine for AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil.

AMSOIL Synthetics are naturally cleansing and also high in detergents. What happens when you operate an engine on petroleum oil, the sludge and varnish deposits that occur as a result of using petroleum oil will accumulate around your pistons, rings, seals, valvetrain, etc.. and actually help to seal your engine. This type of petroleum oil deposit "sealing" can lead to problems such as piston ring sticking, sludge deposits in valve covers and oil pans which can lead to decreased oil pump capacity output and restriction of critical oil galley passageways over an extended period of time, plus many more issues which we will not go into detail in this discussion.. These deposits are highly detrimental to the proper function and longevity of your engine.
