Tonight, when the baby is asleep, I am going to replace the valve cover gasket. I am a two banana shade tree howler monkey and I am attempting this on my own. My main purpose for this is (hopefully) to reduce some leaks that have been plaguing the Beast since replacing the carburetor/intake manifold.

I had help with the last project, maybe too much since I don't feel like I could repeat the process. So what I am hoping to get here is some experience and any advice from you good people. Like, as long as I got the valve cover off, is there anything that I should check at that time?

Thanks,

Drew

Well, I guess you could always check the lifter clearances and valve lash (or is that adjustable on an FSJ?). Sorry, wish I had more info.

Any specific on how to check those? Is there an instrument that I need or is it just a "feel" thing?
