I found couple floor shifters for the 208 Transfer case, but they're all on manual tanny rigs.

Will the 208 floor shifter work with automatic transmission ?

Yes

Grab it and all the linkage.
When The junkyard pulled mine they gave me the tranny hump cover and all just in case I needed it. It is all still in the garage on a shelf.
J10Mike has a write up on this install in his 80's model J10. I have a link somewhere. He will probably chime in before I find it..

As far as I know, the only center floor shifters for the NP208J was with a manual transmission.
NP208J that was mated to a 727TF automatic used flag shifters.

...and YES, by all means grab them!

I'll pm J10Mike.

To see if adaptable.

Wonder why Jeep didn't offer.... Scratch that...no telling about Jeep.

What I would very much like to see is that someone would take one these shifters and reproduce them.
They should work for all NP style cases that Jeep used.

Mike says it will work in Automatic.

He swapped to floor shifter in his truck.

Besides patching transmission tunnel boot must be improvised.

I have seen one or two Cherokee or Wagoneer (don't remember which) that did have the floor shifter with an auto tranny stock. Jeep must have had some issue with parts supply on the flag shifters for a few weeks or something wierd, never seen the parts book list a boot for that setup.
I think the olny thing you need to do to make it work is fill the tranny hole, make a custom link rod, and come up with a boot that looks right.

Just went out to shop and looked at my CJ-7 with automatic.

CJ Boot should work.

Yep 87 parts book doesn't show anything but boots with 2 levers.

Is the flag shifter junk?

Is the flag shifter junk?
No, I would not say the Flag Shifter is junk.

IMHO, the Flag Shifter is chinchy.

The Flag Shifter does keep the shifter outta the way for DD service.

But having owned a '95 Chevy Tahoe and '97 Dodge Dakota, the postive feel of a floor shifter is a hard act to follow.

Besides, a floor shifter just looks kewl! HAHAHA

the flag works fine in my 82. ive got an extra floor setup and choose not to use it. though ive seen a number of people complain about poor/hard shifting, etc with the flag... ive never experienced it. the floor shifter definitely has the cool factor though...

I've got a floor shifter sitting in the garage waiting to go into my '87 GW.
1. Like the look.
2. Hoping it will work better then the flag.
3. It'll be different (as long as everyone doesn't do it.

I might put a B&M shifter on the floor next to it.

Making a long drive parts haul again today.

Guess I'll have to stop and pull the shifter.

It seems to be working on mine with a column shift 727 and a 208, but I don't know who did the work. It's also not a "flag" shifter, just a normal vertical one. If anybody needs pics I could take a few.

Got the shifter & trans hump and the brackets.

You might have a Purvis bearing near you, they supply the oil field and most heavy industry. Just give them the measurements but they do have a minimum order of like $25 or so... if you have to get a bunch I'll buy a set from you for my shifter.

Maybe try the wanted section?

Just ask for a 208 floor shifter from a manual tranny truck.
