NEED TO INCREASE OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE, CRUSING SPEED (55-65) AT ABOUT 30-35 IDLE 9-10 WHEN WARM AND AFTER SITTING STILL FOR A PERIOD OF TIME GOES LOWER UNTIL GASSING IT ABIT. THEN IT GOES BACK TO 9-10

straight 40 or 50 raceing oil worked on my last OLD engine for the same prob.but i never put castrol in mine, it thins out to fast for me.
The best i have found for my likes is Valvoline Raceing oil.It holds up very good in hot VW's in the hot desert too.

20w-50 should be fine for Fl.

Well for a little over $12.00 you cant go wrong with a fresh oil pump. And its a reall easy install too. I got mine from NAPA then use the 20w50 and your oil press. should be good.

I have been running 5W-50 Castrol Syntec Synthetic oil and my pressure is about 40 when cold and 37 when warm with 90K miles. Drops to about 17 when idling. Pressure was a consistent 42 with regular 10W-40. I have been told that the lower pressure is caused by the thinner oil in synthetics but made up by the better lubricating properties. I have thought about investing in that high performance pump from Performance American Style to try to boost it back to 40. Others have told me that 37 using synthetics is great.

An old timer once told me anything over 5psi is fine. Sounded and still sounds low to me, but he never had problems. Any comments?

Do you trust your oil pressure gauge......

I would stay away from SAE 40 or 50... makes it tough for those cold start unless the temp is in the 90degrees

remember that pressure is one thing is flow is as important

20W50 is fine , 10W40 for winter..... getting close to 300,000 miles (original engine)

If you are using the stock oil pressure gauge, its for entertainment only! Mine said it had 3 lbs oil pressure at an idle, changed gauge to a real gauge (autometer) and it has 20 at idle and 50 down the hiway. A real gauge will pleasntly surprise you. MG :D :D :D

I agree.....never trust an electric gauge.....that is unless it goes to zero while your running, then you better give it the benefit of the doubt.....anyway, you can't go wrong with a REAL gauge.

I have used Pennzoil 20W-50 for over 100,000 miles. The last time that I had the valve covers off the valve train was clean as a whistle. Original gauge pressure ranges from 40 psi at highway speeds to 25 psi at idle.

I tried 20W-50 Castrol once but the valve train clicked something fierce on start-up.
