I used a 73 V8 in my 84 J", now the Drive side log style manifold runs down about a foot then touches the pan, binds up the alignment of the donut gasket,, have a nasty leak, is there a 1980-up"Y" pipe that Dosen't hug the pan??
I could cut the pipe and twist it about 3/8" and have rewelded, but thats emsssions tampering I was told. Shops don't want the libility.

BROWN BEAR,, thanks,, I have considered that, other counties would weld, but again they want me to leave it a couple days,, I thought I could find a Y pipe and just do it in the garage comfort
But may end up going out-of-county!.

I had the same problem when I installed a 1972 360 in my 1980 truck. The '80 and up pans are just a bit different. There is an indentation to clear the driver's side part of the Y pipe. My 1980 oil pan had been ventilated by two AWOL connecting rods so I had to buy one. The exhuast pipe kicks over towards the engine a bit to clear the front driveshaft.

Either use a big hammer, or find a later oil pan.

Rande; I just located a late pan,(today), but when i installed the engine, put on a new timming chain and gears, freeze plugs, and new valve cover gaskets as well as a oil pan gasket,, so I hate to undo the tight job done on engine stand, changing to the late pan,, so thats why I will option for twisting the exhaust and have rewelded. thanks,,, I think all the input convienced me to alter the exhaust a bit.
