well, I guess I got what I asked for...after several days straight working,I found myself with 2 days off in a row..to most normal people this may sound great! On top of it all,it is girl scout cookie season and my wife and daughter are nowhere to be found...my son is 16-need I say more...I am alone for 2 days in a row....just me and the waggy -oh and that 4 barrel carb and manifold I have been drooling over but am waiting to install until I get the cam and timing chain and various gaskets and.....yeah-I got nothin better goin on I'm gonna do it!!
Well,I did and it turned out to be just on the threshold of greatness! I mean, unbelievable difference in power, response, attitude, holy crap,my first major power upgrade-tackled myself(some key help from the boy-thanks for socializing!!) got to a bunch of "little" stuff out of the way like,oh, splicing in fresh wires where the manifold had melted several together and/or melted the jacket off of things like one to the alternator (huh, that thing is supposed to point to the right??)... anyway it turned out better that I expected it to and I am excited-really woke that ol'girl up!! I can only imagine what the cam upgrade will do!!
Ok, enough self envelopment, I have searched countless threads looking for a correctly installed edelbrock 1406 with pics of the linkage side,I have a spring that doesn't exactly have a home..??..I "borrowed" the little nub that the cable snaps on to from my sons truck ('79 f150 eddy 1407) but now I do not see where that spring goes -anybody have some good pics of their install?? what adapter kit have you used, ford or chrysler?? I did modify the existing cable bracket to fit-that's fine, the springs are what's throwing me...
Sorry for the long windedness, and thanks in advance for the advice!! It's got me through alot so far!! :drivin:

sounds good.

that spring probably goes on the TV (kickdown) linkage. not really needed though, makes the throttle needlessly stiff, and the spring in the valve body is more than strong enough to return the linkage to position.

I will get you a pic of mine. just finished last night and holy #%$$@ this thing feels like it added 100 horses!

what I had to do for the springs was use a tag that goes around a dogs collar and drill a hole in it to use as a washer and spring holder. I also had to by a cheap throttle bracket that goes to the stud on the back drivers side of the carb. all in all I am super happy with my sp2p manifold and 1406 carb.
I took it out and it goes 0-60 super fast and maxes out at 95 mph! (that was scary) running 3700 rpm at 95

anywho I will get these pics to you soon.

I would like to take moment to congratulate you for being one of the few people I have seen on ANY forum ANYwhere who is able to take useful, up close, CLEARLY focused pictures. Great job.

x2 on the pics, clarity and usefulness-much appreciated, all comments and pics-thanks!! I have that spring kit, wasn't sure if I needed it or not,I'll get it set up like that on tuesday and see if that does it...hey bigyearn, is that just a bolt through on the kickdown linkage?? I stuck one through there temporarily ,it's too small diameter, need to replace it-i'll pick one up at the depot tomorrow on my lunch hour...figured that was part of one of the "adapter kits" edelbrock recommends...

yearn....you really need a bigger airfilter. more air = more power...

peej07, I'm sorry, sp2p ? what's that? I may like it,I may not idk yet...?
Well, it seems as I have angered the 4bbl gods, as the wag would not fire up this morning...wifey had to bring me to work! it cranked and cranked and almost fired, then gave up and just kept cranking...I tried pumping the pedal, I tried reasoning with her, she wouldn't listen...just sat there in the driveway mocking me...and I had to go to work in a minivan...oh the humility! Last night I tweaked the choke open just slightly, and she was runnin fine- don't know what's up now...

sorry it took me A day to get back but I had to go get some new shoes for my Yamaha R1.

as for the pic clarity your welcome, I try my best to take useful pics as it can help out a few more people with identifiying things.

peej07,
I love the sp2p but if I were to do it with some money I would probably just bought the performer. But I am cheap and so far gobs of power. I don't know why people say it is a crappy manifold it certainly gets its own. I had it past 4000 A couple times and it was rompin through the desert.

ironroad29,
(the air filter) I got that one because I was alway messing with the two barrell on there and it was easy to adjust things:D

shaolinsifu,
That is A bolt through the kickdown I got it from the edelbrock chevy throttle linkage kit. It was useless as the peice I needed for the kickdown in that kit was to short to put the pin on the end of it so I used the bolt that came in it. just a little blue locktite and it will never come off.

Good luck on getting your jeep running again!

ok,so I'm gonna request no more two days off in a row...more trouble... since last posting, I have had to leave the Wag home 2 days because it took so long to start,(first day would not fire at all!! ) after starting and idleing for a few minutes, she bogged down and choked out as soon as I put her in gear...when I was finally able to get it started and "trick" it into staying running while in gear-no problems at all!!:banghead: Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley!! :banghead: She ran all day after that no issues starting or choking...every day since, it has taken a good 10 minutes to get her started in the morning-is the carb just not tuned right?? The most perplexing issue to arise since the 4bbl swap is now, sporadically when I shut off the key, the motor keeps running as if I never shut it off!!   I have to pop the hood and choke it out!!?? what is that??!??

Check your fuel pressure. Anything over about 6 psi will flood out the Carter... Sorry, Edelbrock... and it'll do all sorts of odd things.

Depending on your altitude, you might have to look into a needle and jet kit. Edelbrock seems to be mighty conservative with the out-of-the-box setup and assumes you're at sea level or something. Though it looks like you're in Florida, so...

The Eddy I just put on my truck also seemed to have an issue with draining the fuel bowls back down the fuel line... If I let it sit for a couple of days, I'd have to crank on it, on and off, for 5-10 minutes get everything re-primed. Once I put a fuel pressure regulator on it, which also acts as a check valve, the problem went away.

I still have an issue where if I choke it all the way out (engaging the cold idle and whatever other circuits in there) rather than stopping just where the choke is closed, it'll act like it's flooding... Not quite figured that one out yet.

As for your run-on; is it dieseling or actually running? The former is hot carbon keeping combustion running for a bit after the ignition is shut off, the latter is an electrical issue.

Good luck and keep at it. The improvement in performance is certainly worth the headache.

took it back to my buddy,he tweaked it back to where it belongs...smoothed out the idle,I guess I'll find out tomorrow about the cold start (like the idea of the fuel pressure reg.,think I'll pick up one of those...thanks Rihahn) Like I said in the origional post, I got what I asked for...2 days off,got ancy-didn't want to wait for the cam and timing chain to do the project complete and correct...lesson learned:cool: thanks everyone!!
BTW...She just turned 205k this morning, didn't notice last night-rolled out of the driveway this morning at 204999.7...just gettin broke in!!
