I am tearing out my carpet kit and dynomat they are more like mushroom farms then interior accessories.

I am redoing the whole interior inner fenders, roof and floor with "Grace" Water & Ice. (its cheap and i stock it at work so it seems like a good candidate) i am laying it on double thick so the final thickness is .80 mil i may even do triple thick in the rear fenders, in the front doors and on the floor.

The thought is that the old dyno mat glued to the bottom of my carpet is collecting moisture when ever i get in with wet shoes, or when the tailgate seeps a little or the door seals seep a little and then it holds it same thing with the carpet, its holding moisture too. moisture is the issue especially when i go duck hunting wet waders ect the carpet never seems to dry out.

so i am looking at the BJ's vinal carpet kit laid over the top of the adhesive insulation i am installing inside the chief. Anyone see a problem with going back to the vinal kit for the florrs? will it amplify the diesel engine noise vs the carpet inside the rig? Do you think its going to increase my moisture problem by trapping moisture between it and the floor?
would i better off using the ice and water because it is self adhesive on the floor and then just laying a new carpet kit over it without the dyno mat. I think the dyno mat is the major culprit because it is glued on in a way that creates a vapor barrier between it and the carpet trapping the moisture after it absorbs it

i would guess ther are tow approches here
1) Never allow water to get under the covering. (Vinal)
2) Water gets in but can dry out (Carpet)

Personally i think you sealed the mosture in with the Dynomat, and there was no air movment to allow it to dry once the water got under the mat. The vinal floor covering suffers the same way, water will find a way under it and then can't find a way out. I have a very rust free cherokee from your neck of the woods, all except the floor pan due to the vinal mats sealing water in under it.
I think your best bet is no barrier between the floor and the top (Carpet and Jute if needed, then use deep channel rubber floor mats to catch most of the water from soaking the carpet, remove mats afer hunting and let it dry.

My 1980 Cherokee Had the rubber mats under the jute and carpet. I pulled out the carpet it was dry the jute had some moisture and under the rubber molded floor mats was stinky water and rust. I feel the whole pan need be sealed and either rolled or sprayed on then something airy like excelsior. That stuff they used to put in water coolers or shipping crates and non backed carpet to let out the moisture.

with the diesel i want to get as much sound deadener as i can down. the self adhesive ice and water works pretty well and doesnot allow the water in between

the floor is already lined with the bed liner roll on style stuff by the previous owner but did little to keep road noise out even with jsut the carpet hence why i added the dynomat a few years ago but now i cam convinced that was a big mistake:eek:

sounds like carpet no dyno mat and then the self adhesive ice and water .40 mill stuck to the sheet metal will be the way to go
