i have this bind in my steering now for a while. with the tires pointing straight then turning 15 degrees or so i here a binding noise. it sounds like it is coming from the driver's front. i have never wrenched on any steering, so i am really lost. what are some initial problems and tests i should check? is a ball joint suspect? thanks for your time

pump chatter? does it go away when the rig warms up? could be as ez as a loose belt or a glazed belt. is p/s reservoir low on fluid? keep an eye on the fluid level. the hoses tend to leak at the fittings over time. the pump cant handle being run dry too many times so you could be in for a new pump. greasing the tierods helped my centering problem, but they werent noisy.

the power steering pump and gear box are both new. they have been working fine since i installed them. i am pretty sure it has somthing to do with the steering rods o r other components. i was wondering if it is a ball joint how hard will the repair be? thank you

You might want to check out the u-joint as well. That is easier to change than the ball joints.

Also when was the last time you greased everything up?
