I'm about to store away (for a very long sleep) my 84GW. I now have an 88 that's in tip-top shape. Is the ECU the exact same unit except for the 2 connectors? I want to use the new spare from the 84 in the 88. Thanks!

It's the same except for the connectors; you could create an adapter harness by using the body-side plugs from an early donor-FSJ and some weatherpack connectors from a spare '88 module. That would allow you to plug the early unit into the later harness.

Thanks. That's exactly what I had in mind to do but you've given me details I hadn't thought about. Thanks again!

You can do a really clean install by soldering on some new weatherpack pins on the ends of the wires running from the older-style connectors, and just re-using the original housings from an '88 ECU. That way there are no extra connections in the wires to break.

I'm going to make an adapter cable from the old style to the new weatherpack. That way I can use any of my old ECUs that are hanging around. Thanks again, Bob.
