Well, had a good day today, ended up taking out the sliding window on the J10, without and cracks or beaks. And I got the rear part of the Gladiator cab cut up that I picked up from Tanker a few weeks back. Got the rough cut and dry fitted the rear panel of the cab in for the small rear window swap/conversion.

No brow, small window cab:thumbsup:

There was some rust issues on the small window panel with the bottom edge on the flange that the window gasket goes on. Had to weld in a 14" patch to clean that up. It looks a tad bit ugly, but the window gasket will cover it up. All in all my primitive sheet metal skills are improving with each little job. Finally got my sheet metal MIG welding better. I hate burning holes through perfectly good metal.

Got some rust issues on the same areas with the original large slider window, will need to get that cleaned up, but that won't need any patching. From the inside the "new panel" almost looks factory.

All in all, it'll end up being an easier converion than I originally thought. I basically cut the rear portion to fit to the lip that that the lare window had. It'll get welded in for keep with some finer trimming.

I also ended up working on my smooth dash some more. I ended up filling the seams some more, and filled in the longer thin holes on the edge from the dash pad. Came out alright.

Also here are some pics of the HB unit from Elliott mounted in the J10. I still need to pick up the hydro hoses.

All in all it was a good day.

Man, I like that dash. What are the two cuts in the top of the dash? (not the defrost vents).

The pics of the dash, the newest stuff, the dash is in gray primer, the red oxide primer is the before today pics. Those too holes, not the defrost vents were for the dash pad. Those got filled in today, along with some seams on the right and left face of the dash.

So for the stuff on the dash look at the gray version.

Gotcha.

Looks good

I want to due the same to my dash. I pulled the pad off last weekend.

Did you just weld up the wholes, grind them smooth, and them body fill over them?

Pretty much, and that was a PAIN, the dash sheet metal is SO darn thin, it's like paper. I just tacked it in a few places, and then used filler with fiber glass for the base, and then bondo for the final coat. You need to hammer the holes down some to create a "dent", if not your patch will end up being higher than the panel at the tack points. By the time you grind down your tacks, you've eaten thru the dash panel.

It was, or will be a LOT easier than I originally thought it would be. It just took a LOT more trimming than I originally planned.

Nice job!

I can't wait to see someone chop a roofline on one of these about 6" and sink the windshield in the cavern behind the dash :D

but anyways, awesome!

Or use an electric rear window on a Jtruck.....

I'd like to see a chopped and channeld FSJ, on air bags, BUT still keep the 4WD.
