Q for y'all.
Is the front clip removeable on a J truck? If not, what is the easiest way to pull an engine from a SOA J truck?
(I have NO overhead hoist, so dont go that route)

I like to remove the front clip. It makes the engine swaps so much easier. It is not hard to remove, bolts behind the doors, and to the firewall, 3 I think in the wheel well, and two at the rockers, and one on each side of the rad.

is that the screw driver you use on snap rings? ;)
Wow, that's a lotta work if you're not repainting the engine compartment, etc. I pulled the 360 out of my trail rig with my cherry picker. I thought I would have to put smaller tires on it, but it went high enough!
Spring over on 37's........ tongue.gif

Brandon, not for lack of trying! LOL! Seems noone around here likes the old FSJ's (loosers, I tell ya! ;) ) so I have been unable to sell it.
Maybe someone is trying to tell me something??? I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to swap engines without a garage, hoist, concrete pad, etc...
Still thinking...

Your from MONTANA!!!!! YOU DON'T NEED THAT SISSY STUFF!!!! Get some buddys to help you, too. Not the kind that just want to drink all of your beer, either. Don't forget to unbolt/unscrew all the under hood accessories that are on the fenders too. Take the front clip off and get a friend with a hoist on his truck to pick the engine out and drop the new one in. You live in Montana, so I know you know someone with a hoist in the back of their truck. Goodluck and I'm glad you didn't sell it either. smile.gif

Any trees nearby? Find one with a nice big branch and strap a come-along to it. If you think it needs extra support, you can tie the lifting branch to the main trunk or another branch higher up in the tree.
You can also make a tri-pod out of 4x4s for lifting the engine. Just use long ones so the engine can go high enough to clear the front of the truck. A come-along, a few 4x4s, some chain and some bolts to hold the whole affair together is all you need. Cost of the 4x4s and bolts will cover the rental of a cherry picker though.
