OK this is what I have compiled so far from reading through the archives and browsing the Edelbrock and Summit site.

Edelbrock
3731 EGR Intake
1406 Carb
7818 Timing set - open for discussion please, other brands and or grinds??
2132 cam package - open for discussion please, other brands and or grinds??
8534 Intake bolt set

Fel-Pro MS96011 Intake Gasket Set.

option
5832 valve springs - should I really do this part?

I am waaaaay open for options here. This started cause I messed up the cam. The carb and intake are options, I figured might as well look at the option while it's torn apart. Stock carb and intake have been working flawlessly however so it would be just a bonus. I noticed the carb would not allow me to use the charcoal can? ummmm is that important? and what do I do with it if I dont use it?

You guys are wonderfull for putting up with me the last week or so - thank you so much
Wendy

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but with the 3731 manifold you would want the 1400 carb instead of the 1406.

FYI,
i pulled an 80k mile 360, installed cam kit, valve springs, intake, carb, msd ignition, pro billit dist, and a double roller t-chain. all the good stuff! edlebrock, comp cams extreme energy, msd. installed the "new" shinny motor in my jeep. it ran great! at first. then it started to smoke a little. not much. but enough to annoy the hell out of someone who had just lightened his wallet (credit card) by $600-700.Funny, didnt do that before i "fixed it".
now, i am no mechanic. many of you reading this figured that out already.
bottom line, or so i am told. all the new stuff works so good that the old (rings, cyl walls, valve guide seals) stuff cant keep up!
just my o2,while shes in parts all over your garage. consider pulling the heads, and sending them, and the block to a good machine shop.

Everyone else, AMC included, used a vacuum operated EGR valve separate from the carb. The 1400's EGR system won't be used on the 3731 manifold. Just hook up the EGR valve to a vacuum port and you're good to go.

As far as camshaft recommendations, I've heard that Summit's "mild" cam (#8600) is the way to go for a 360. It's a step up from the Edelbrock cam, which works better for a 304. The 8601 cam from summit is another step up and will probably be too much unless you're running a 401 with a big intake and carb.

And if you get the summit cam, you may as well get their double roller timing chain at the same time since you'd have to get the cam from summit. Not much difference between it and the Edelbrock chain though so it doesn't really matter one way or another.

Don't forget the "off road kit" (Edelbrock #1465) for the carb. It's just a set of spring loaded needle and seats. May as well put that in while you're putting it together and adjusting things.

Well Derf - I took your advice and checked Summit for the parts you suggested.
I cancelled my order with Scoggin Dickey. Dont feel bad about that anyway, I had a heck of a time getting through to someone that had a pc, or was not to busy drinking coffee to answer thier phones. Guess they where just to intimidated to talk to a girl that sounded like she knew what she wanted smile.gif
I Have a pending order with summit for the 8600 cam, Summit DBL RLR chain, 3731 intake, 1406 carb, and edelbrock bolt set, and fel-pro MS96011 intake gasket. Cant seem to find a model # for the timing chain gasket and the valve cover gaskets though. Seems the throttle adaptor is backordered - darn it.

Finding gaskets for this thing is a bear smile.gif

Howmydoing (that's one word you know) can you think of anything I am missing?

Thanks again
Wendy
