Okay, bought a new Holley, 12801-1 elec fuel pump for the chero. Installed it on sat. and cranked her up. She spit, caughed and threw some flames out the Holley 600 cfm carb.

My friend who is the knowledgeble one when it comes to helping me with the jeep, goes right to the distributor and it is loose. Upon further inspection, the rotor inside is sheared off. We replaced the cap & rotor with new and set the timing. Still no good.

We are trying to determine what happed, who caused what to break so we can figure out what to do. Was the distributor the cause or was too much fuel dumped in the carb setting off a chain reaction? Am I overkilling things with that pump?? The parts store guy says the pump is rated to go with my carb.

Some of the plugs appear pretty fouled so we tried cleaning them but didn't help much. She will barely crank and barely run. It runs like when you have a couple of spark plug wires crossed or something.

We also checked the spark from the coil and it seems strong, i.e. normal. Some plugs seem to fire better than others.

Problem is, I could go spend $200 or more and still not get the fix.

Our ideas include: spark plugs all fouled when she threw flames, need new distributor, control module, or maybe blew a power valve in the carb.

Question is, which one or none of the above???

My #1 concern and question would be How the rotor sheared off. I would think this to be the problem, is the Dizzy shaft sloppy?? I doubt the fuel pump would cause a problem with the Dizzy.

The shaft does have some play and the "cup" shaped thing at the end of the shaft has a small chip missing out that looks like it was fryed.

What are the usual symptoms of a bad distributor?

I have not done the tfi upgrade thing. Would this be a good time to do it if I need to replace dist? I am running one of those prestolines right now. (Well, not running, sitting.)

grab the rotor and see if you can turn the shaft in the engine i get alot of fords here thet do the same thing what they do is shear the roll pin that holds the gear to the shaft if you pull the dizzy it will look like the pin is good but if you hold the gear with a rag and twist the rotor it will turn thus making it run like the wires are crossed and chain is bad check and see if you can turn the rotor it will be tight but if the pin is bad it will turn
