As some of you know not too long ago I bought a Chief about 20 minutes ,by 65mph freeway, away from my house. Well Saturday I turned truck around to get it up on some ramps to get headers off and when I got it up I thought man that front tire looks all bowed out. It was being held on by 2 lugnuts that only had about 3 turns each holding them on.

The guy that drove it over here was **** lucky. had that of come off on the way here on worse yet on the Delaware memorial bridge, he would have been dead.

Well I jacked it up and tightened them down.. the three nuts i still have  Now just waiting on exhaust. I just glade i didn't try to drive it any where.

Trust me I checked all the other ones on all the tires.

Had a baby cherk come back from a tire rotation out in San Diego with all the nuts hand tightened...on all four wheels...with my wife and 3 other women in the car...on the 15 freeway...during rush hour...

Needless to say I was NOT HAPPY when I got to ole Wally World that evening...destroyed 2 of my wheels and came really close to killing 4 nurses and who knows how many others...

I just had this same thing happen to me, somehow I lost three lug nuts. I didn't catch mine in time and luckly the three remaining studs broke while I was doing some very slow off road driving. Glad you caught it in time.

I totally know what you mean there. I took my '76 Chero out one friday night loaded up with some friends about 20 minutes north on the freeway out to the beach and to hit up a sports bar. Some guy decided while we were there to hit on one of the girls and was jerk off about it. A buddy and I walked up and put myself into the conversation and made it sound like she and I were together as to give him a hint. He still didn't get it so my buddy gave him a really clear picture and he got bent outta shape. At one point we went outside for a smoke and went back inside for a while before heading out to the beach. Thats when things got messy. We were scootin' down the freeway at about 70-75 when the front end got violent. I let off the gas and slide off the freeway onto the shoulder ... just in time. Right as we came to a halt the driver's front rim thunked down onto the hub shaft that sticks out of the rim. When I got out I found that 4 of the 6 studs had snapped off. The only conclusion that I can find, although I don't really want to think anybody would be capable of such a $h!tty thing, was that that jerk off back at the bar loosened up the lugs on my front tire!! :grumble:

Funny thing is that the girl that got hit on, she ended up calling her grandparents to see if they could help out with their AAA towing, and they did(really cool old folks!) OK, so thats not the funny part. The part that is is that we ended up going out. Broke up some time later, but even funnier and cooler, we met up again after 12 years and now we are married. :p

On my first voyage with my truck to meet some of the local St Louis guys, I had a tire come completely off. It was the first time driving it any distance, and I thought it was a bit shakey. I'd had the wheels off several times, so must have missed tightening the front left. Going down the interstate the wheel just came off. I pulled it off the hwy on the rotor. Funny thing was it only threw sparks up when I used the brake cuz that stopped the rotor. Thankfully Woodchomper had a spare he brought me. We still had lunch-and alot of laughs at my expense...Del

yeah, weve had two of those incidents in the last year, my youngest son parked his j10 where he shouldnt have and someone removed all but the one locking lug nut on the drivers side, that came loose about half mile down the road and took out his drivers side fender, luckily he wasnt hurt and the wheel and tire were ok, but wide track fenders in good shape are hard to get.

on the other one my youngest stepson came home from school and his truck was making a funny clunking noise on the drivers front (dont know why this wheel is always the victim) and 3 of his lug nuts were off and the wheel, drum and hub were ruined, another mile and he would of lost it. I pray I never catch someone doing this, its attemped murder in my book.
