390 ???????

Anyone ever put a 390 in a FSJ. I got a line on a 390 4bbl out of a 69 AMC AMX. Heard they were pretty strong back then. Will everything bolt up?
Any help or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks smile.gif

They're great engines, but you would probably have to chunk out some serious cash to get a crankshaft made that will work in your Jeep. Same thing with pre-1973 401 engines.

hey Ralph, i know thati will sound dumb, but what is the crank problem? Balancing? what about running the AMX tranny and a fror NP208 divorced transfer?

The problem is that the 390 used a different aoutmatic, this one being a Borg Warner unit. If you could find a six cylinder auto trannied, IHC Travelall, pick up or Scout from 70 or earlier you would have a tranny that would work.

If the 390 has never had head work it will be necessary to replace the seats to run on todays unleaded gas. It probably will also need guides installed and new valves and seals.

Sounds like it might be more trouble than I wanna put up with.
The guy saya he wants 300.00 for the motor. It is complete but in pieces.
