As I have recently decided that the top half of my carb is warped and that it is the root of a major gas seepage, I am trying to explore options for getting her back on the road.
Can I RTV the heck outofher and seal it that way? or will the gas eat the RTV?

BTW
Anyone with a 4bbl carb that they want to get rid of (that fits on a AMC manifold) please contact me ASAP...this is my daily driver :(

I started building up the lower lip with JB Weld and was going to file it down to a good fit. That was before I got the other Carburetor. Personally I didn’t think the RTV was a good idea unless you glued the two parts together and gave them a few days to cure. I don’t even know if it’s fuel proof…

Good Luck. ;) . and CUL… ds..

IIRC RTV tubes say on them 'Not for use on parts exposed to gasoline' or something to that effect. Somebody please correct me if i am wrong.

I'd be more afraid that the vacuum would suck the rtv into the intake and get caught somewhere important.

Why not try 'gasket paper' at the auto parts store? It comes in varying thicknesses and even in cork. It's a rolled up sheet (why the heck they roll it I still can't figure out cause it's a bugger to flatten) but you stick your part on there and trace it and then cut it out to fit. Hey, it's cheaper than a carb...

The only fluids I would let come in contact with RTV is water, and oil. For some odd reason tranny fluid eats it up.

I think it will work. I've done this before the ultra blue or copper is the only RTV that can take gas. I would let it setup good before you use it. I'd try it if they arent to thick maybe you could put 2 top cover gaskets on to take up the warpage.

I know what your talkin about though, my carb leaks and is warped like that too, just don't drive it, so haven't worried about it.
