View Full Version : Parts Truck
I've been passing by a mid seventies J-10 sitting out by the road along one of the highways near my house since moving in. Well, I was able to catch the guy home this evening and got to talk to him about it. He had bought it to build a mud truck a few years ago but never did anything with it. The engine and transmission were taken out before he got it. Most everything else was there though. He cut the fender flairs off of it before parking it but said he may still have them around back with the other Jeeps. He told me he would look for them and put them in the bed for me if he found them. I gave him a couple hundred dollars for it thinking I could use that much in parts for the M-715 for the J-2000. He told me he was leaving out Wednesday for a job and that he would get his brother to help deliver it to my house on Tuesday. He invited me back someday to look at his other Jeeps he has also. I shot off a picture with my phone before leaving but lost it somewhere in cyber space trying to send it to my online album. If it's not too dark Tuesday, I'll get some pics then.

Cool... Is is 76 or newer?
If I remember right it's a '76. I'll know tomorrow afternoon when it gets here.
I took off this afternoon to meet the guy with the truck and help get it to the house. After we unloaded it at the street I towed it up to the house and set it in it's place.

When I got it "parked" I looked through it and found some envelopes in the glove compartment. Turns out to be a '78. It came originally with a 360, had cruise and a brushguard.
The cab is in great shape. Just a little rust on the drivers side floor board but not all the way through. The bed is another story. I can see through most of it. There's lot's of parts I can use off of it though.

Looks like the beginnings of a trail truck
lol I had to keep reminding myself I bought it for parts. It looks to be lifted some though and wouldn't take too much to make it ready for the trail... but I bought it for the M715 and maybe some parts for the J2000... I do have an engine I could use for it, just need to find a tranny... no I bought it for parts.

It sits about as High as the M715 and has three flats.

Looks like someone already did a SOA on it.

JD,
You interested in selling the hood latch assy of the hood? THink it will work for a Rhino Grill? I swapped out the grill on my 80 J10 for a rhino.
Thanks!

It does not look like the right style for the Rhino conversion, the 79's should work, but this one has the pull lever between the hood and hood bar which is not accessable with a rhino grill.
To modify what you have all you need to do is punch a hole (outline is there) in rad supprt top, and tack on a paddle to the release cross bar.
(Or go to the later cable release setup)

I got rid of the cable release when I put the cage in the cab. Also did not want to break the cable and be stuck. Old school manual stuff works better out in the wild. Thanks!

Thanks!Odd, never seen a cable release in an 80 model (pignose factory grill) the 80 model factory latch will work as well

I didn't notice it while looking it over but that's what they did.
One of my thoughts is to use that hood and the latch assy on the M715.
I'll let you know though.
