View Full Version : Any opinions on Raybuck parts?

While replacing my gas tank skid plate and rear leaf springs this past weekend, I managed to knock out a few remaining chunks of bondo and/or rusted sheetmetal from the rear quarter panels and rocker panels, leaving nice big scoops for water to get in.
So now all projects have to be set aside (no engine rebuild, Holley TBI, shiny valve covers, etc.), because my priority has to be the integrity of the vehicle first. It's time for body work and a paint job! Raybuck sells all the parts I need, and I'm just curious to have opinions on them. All items listed will be replaced on both left and right sides, all weld-in parts:
Rear quarter panels
Rear wheel well "dog legs"
Rocker panels
While I personally have never gotten parts from them, I've heard the metal they use is thicker than JC Whipme or other places.

Hey Ralph, If you do end up getting parts from Raybuck's, keep me posted on what you think about the parts. I too am considering ordering some sheetmetal from them and would value your opinion. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

I purchased my lower quarter panels (9")from Goodmark Industries through e-bay. Paid less that $ 30.00 for both sides.
I do not think there are that many producers of formed sheet metal for GW's anymore. Raybucks, JC Whitney and Goodmark just buy and sell. All sources are probably comparable in the quality of formed sheet metal that they sell.
Even though I have a MIG welder, I riveted the panels on. First I cut all the metal from the truck 1" undersized and flanged the body to accept the panel. Applied body panel sealer and adhesive to the joint and used 1/8" aluminum rivets 1" on center. Flattened the rivets with a body hammer and dolly. Sand the rivets and joint area LIGHTLY with a 36 grit disc and used bondo to smooth the exterior. I used about 108 rivets for each side. Sealed from the inside with body seal filler and then sprayed rubberized and paintable undercoating inside the truck. it should be water tight. It hasn't leaked yet.
I have pictures of the finished work and the quarter panel with the rivets in if your interested.
Good luck!

I have a pair of Wide track Fenders from Raybuck sitting in my shed Ralph. Someday I intend to put them on - AFTER I get the truck running again!
You can pop down sometime and look at the fenders I have. The metal is nowhere near as thick as the 81 stock Fenders, but it seems thicker than the metal on my 87 Jimmy.

Hate to say this about your full proof security but . . .

I have replaced my rear quarter panles, rear flares and front right fender with Raybuck parts and I am happy with them, my jeep is in the readers rigs and you can kinda see them in that picture. they are not to badly priced either.
