Well, the quadratrac transfer case on my 79 cherokee finally decided to die on me. I was wondering if there is some kind of adapter that would enable me to use a dana 20? Only reason I really want to change is because of the relative obscurity of the quadratracs.
Thanks in advance,

Fogerty, there was a factory optioned TH400/Dana 20 setup that was available on Commandos and FSJs made before 1973 I believe. You need the output shaft of the TH400 as well as the adapter to swap out your QT. If you can find an original set up that is in good shape that was behind an AMC motor, you should be all set. 72,73 Commandos are a good source that most people overlook.

You could always convert the QT to a part time unit using Mile Marker's kit
http://www.4wheelparts.com/images/mmauadratrac.gif
The kit replaces the entire center diff in the QT to enable 2x4 and 4x4 operation by using the vac switch in the glove box.
Here is the link to the kit...

I wouldn't say they are rare either, I have two on the ground and two in vehicles. What do you need, just the diff?

I would think the D20's would be more rare. They made a TON of quadra trac rigs.
Right now there is a D20 & FSJ adaptor for sale in the "For sale" section for $100, but you have to go get it in CA.
I have a extra QT that I could give you for peanuts + shipping
BTW, what went wrong with yours?

The case cracked and the chain broke, so i need to replace the full unit. I am currently trying to work something out with crazyjeepman, but if that doesnt work out I will gladly buy your QT. Just kinda frustrated right now because I was scheduled to do some snow wheelin up in Boone this weekend and now I cant. Thanks for all the replies.

Another lesson for us on the importance of checking chain slack in a Quadra trac. When they get too loose, they wil skip and bind between the gear and the case,,,,the case looses. For our education, Fogerty, how many miles were on that chain??

Your easiest and cheapest fix is to replace it with another QT unit. Just make sure you have a good chain this time. The QT, in my opinion is one of the best 4x4 systems ever devoloped by any manufacturer. Especially if you have the low-range unit, which is a bolt-on to the back of the case. It gets a bad rap for the reason that un-knowing owners don't check the chain tension or change the fluid (or if they do they add the wrong kind and fry the internal diff). If a chain gets too loose, it can break and bust the case. The QT is really cool because its the only t-case ever produced that can switch from a posi-type engagement to full locked 4 wheel drive. If you're doing serious 'wheelin with low gears and big tires stay away from the part time kit. This kit is fine for light use, but hardcore offroad beatings will break it. Stick to factory parts for this kind of stuff. If you don't want to run fulltime 4x4, you can use aftermarket lockout hubs and just run in e-drive. Contrary to popular beleif, this is a fine compromise to use on the street. It makes hardly any difference in fuel economy or drivetrain wear to run QT in e-drive around town with your front hubs unlocked. This is what I do in my jeep. I don't even ever shift my rig out of e-drive. (I don't even have a QT shifter to do so!) Its rigged direct with one vacuum line straight off the intake to the case. I've been using it like this for almost a year now. The neat thing about using it this way is I can run straight gear oil and not worry about the limited slip function because I never use it. If you do use the LSD diff function of the QT (stock setup, etc.) you must use oil with LSD additive (limited slip differential) (not hippy acid) or you'll burn up the clutches in the diff of the QT.
