View Full Version : I think this is fraud, AA Auto of Denver

AA Auto of Denver said they had a unbroken plastic filler neck for my 76 Cherokee, so I order it up with over night shipping so I could get on the road, well the next day the package arrives at my buddies shop in SLC , and behold the part they said was uncracked, was missing a section of the plastic, making the thing useless. So I give them a call that day, seem to get the point across that they sold and shipped a useless part, and got the fool idea that they would take care of the issue.
Anyway 30 days, go by no retraction of the charge, so I ***** to the card company, they finally reverse charges.
Fast forward to today, charge shows up again, I assume AA Auto seems that they think they should be paid to miss-represent and ship whatever garbage they have in the back 40.
Anyway here is a picture of what they sent with my artistic rendition of the broken off missing section drawn in.

The whole section where the filler hose connects is missing and from the looks of the weathering along the fracture line it was broken long before they sold it.
Sorry for the rant, not the $'s so much as the misrepresentation and shipping obvious garbage.

You need to contact your CC company and let them know. Also file a report with the local (Denver area) BBB.

Looks like a pretty clean break, unless they are a FSJ specialty yard and are very familiar with that part, they probably thought it was OK.
Regardless, they should refund your money when you pointed out to them that it wasn't OK.

I won't go there over whether it is fraud or not. It very well could be a mistake.
The plastic fillers are crap anyway. I have found that using the metal filler and hoses for an 80-81 (and maybe 79 but I have not studied one) model Wag/Cherk is a good replacement for the plastic junk. With that design, you do not have any plastic or rubber hoses inside the cabin because the metal pipes (filler and vent) run from the cap to under the vehicle where the rubber hoses connect.
Just my $.02 worth...

I pretty much originally thought it was a mistake, that I am OK with, we all make mistakes, we all (at least i hope we all) try and make things right when we do make mistakes.
Keeping the money they took based on their mistake, after they were made aware of the problem, is what I am not OK with, and makes me question if it really was a mistake.
I agree the original Jeep design was poor, but that does not excuse them from misrepresenting the condition of the part at the time of sell, it is their job to know what they are looking at, if they have any questions they should have raised them at the time, rather than representing that they had a part in serviceable condition.

Sorry, I was not trying to say they were not responsible for satisfying with replacement or refund. You have very valid points. :)

You are right on the design points, the 1976 OEM set up is a cluster F*** of fuel lines in the rear quarter panel, the 79 setup is better, but still has vent line routing that makes me think the Jeep engineer was taking too many happy pills when he designed it, the 80+ setup is pretty clean for fuel lines, but rotten for frame rail rust. You can't win, they all have issues.

I could be mistaken, but shouldn't there be a metal sleeve protruding from the plastic for the filler hose to clamp to ?
maybe it can be salvaged by a short piece of tubing to go up inside the plastic.
no excuse on their part of course.....

There is should be a metal sleeve inside the missing section, Jeep thinned the plastic out to allow for the sleave, so where the sleeve ends the plastic thickens back out creating a natural stress riser, which suprise surprise is exactly where it broke off, there is nothing there to attach to in any pratical way, total piece of trash.
