I have a 77 wag that I want to keep all the running gear, glass, springs, gas tank, and a few body parts from.
The rest I want to chop up into chunks the size that 2 guys can handle.
I'm in need of some tips and tricks on how to quickly do this.
How to remove windshield?
How to save and remove gas tank?
Whats the best way to remove engine and trany?
Seperate trany and engine, or pull all together?
I plan on taking the front clip out by some means. Should I remove the Quadratrack first?
Thanks

All the ones I've done have been so rusty I was able chop them apart with an axe. I get the body either cut up or rolled off then pick the whole drivetrian right out as one piece. Unbolt springs and roll complete axles out. As for windsheild cut the rubber around it to remove quickly with a razor knife. Tank, I would cut the straps then drop it out. If the body is still holding together it will be tougher to get it in chunks. Might have to just throw it on a trailer and hual it to the scrap yard.

I've done this twice; the pics of my latest victim are at:

I basically remove the entire body before touching the drivetrain; since you're taking it all apart anyway, why make it harder for yourself?
The basic tools you need are a sawzall and an impact-gun. Here's the procedures I use:
1. Remove doors
2. Remove seats, belts, carpeting and all interior panels
3. Remove glass. The side-windows pop out easily once you remove the inside trim; I've never successfully removed a windshield, but cutting the gasket seems to be the best approach.
4. Remove steering column and dash, disconnecting the wire-harnesses at the firewall.
5. Remove hood, fenders and front radiator support
6. Remove heater box and brake booster. Unbolt all body-mounts.
7. Make cuts at the top of the window pillars, and slice the roof from side-to-side across the middle. Then cut the pillars off at the bottoms.
8. Remove the tranny access cover. Slice horizontally from the front of the rocker-panel to the opening for the tranny, and down from the windshield base to the opening. That splits the cowl into two pieces that one or two people can handle.
9. Cut floor around perimeter so that rockers and wheelwells are separated; cut just in front of the dogleg in front of the rear wheel to split the side of the truck in half.
10. Cut across at back of passenger section of floor and across middle of cargo section, then split the front by cutting back from the tranny opening.
That takes care of the body. Then you can unbolt the engine, tranny and transfer-case, and remove them together or separate. Do separate the torque-coverter from the drive-plate before you do anything else; it's much harder when the powertrain is removed.

i got lucky and removed a windshield w/o cracking it. cut the o/s seal with a sharp utility knife. start at the top and once its out work down each side. i took out the engine/trans as a unit.once the front clip is out of the way. BTW, if you're gonna cut off the body, i'd wait til then

I've taken out several windshields and never broken one or cut the rubber gasket. The gasket has a "lock".Remove the chrome moulding and take a small screwdriver and poke it into the groove in the gasket.Work it back and forth to loosen the "lock".It's kinda like a ziplock bag lock.It doesn't take long to see how it works.Loosen it all the way around and you will see how to get the windshield out.
I've seen guys cut the rubber and sure enough the windshield pops out in a hurry.
If you cut the rubber you will someday for sure wish you hadn't.

Thanks guys.
Me and my bro Bob will be doing this soon.
We need to do this as fast as we can once we start, so the neighbors don't complane.
Thanks

I second the sawzall idea, a friend of mine and I cut up 2 chevy luvs into dumpster size chunks. (those large rolloff dumpsters).
To bad you werent in Almena. We could just use the excavator to chew it up into bite sized pieces. heheheh
Good luck and dont you guys cut yourselves.. (rub grease on em if ya do)
