My 87 GW is lower on the left rear than the right rear by about 1 1/2 inches. The shocks are new and no leafs are broken.

Anyone have any experience with this condition?

Prolly just a tired left/rear spring pack from the fuel tank being on that side. Pretty common prob.

I had the exact same problem with my 81.. I first changed the shocks.. I then changed the leafs on both the front and the rear.. and I still have the problem.. I measured from the frame to the ground on both sides.. the body to the ground the axel to the ground.. I cant figure it out.. The only conclusion I can come to is.. when my gas tank is full 25 gallons, it causes it to lean more... I guess.... I dont know.. It will be intresting to read others opinions..

I've seen a lot of CJ's with this problem, too, and they have the gas tank center-mounted. I think the fatigue in the driver-side springs is caused by the torque applied to the chassis during acceleration. Vehicles with limited-slip diffs don't seem to have this problem.

Ralph , that would not apply to me , I have full posi in my wagon.. But, it is an EXCELLENT theory , I never thought of that , I can see how that would certinly take its toll on that side of the suspension.. Im suprised we dont see the leaning more often considering all the weight thats distributed to the one corner during accelearation..

Hmmm, that brings to mind the distinct possibility that you turn right waaaaaaay too often!

CAPTAIN!!!! She 's listing!!!!! :D

I had remedied the very same thing with my wag when I first got her by removing the rear springs and swapping a few leafs left to right and right to left. It's been a while so I can tell you which ones.. plus that was in 97 and stock springs ;). I think I tookthe two middle springs and swapped... I know I did more thatn that....you know... trial and error....I had patience then :D

Had the same problem on my 84 GW.
Install a set of Hellwig 550 helper springs. ($35 at Summtracing.com).
Their part # HEL-550
They are a half leaf spring that bolts on top of your spring pack with ubolts. When you install them you adjust the tension so you can level out your ride. In my case had to tighten left side 3/4 way down but only 1/4 on right side. Also helped with the saggy waggy look.
Takes about 10 minutes per side to install and you dont have to remove anything.

Stauter . . any truth in the idea that those helpers only last for a year before they conform to the bigger stock leaves? My '85 has the same problem and I was told I couldn't solve it until I replaced my rear springs.

I never noticed my list until I installed my body lift. Now it is quite apparent with the front dipping to the left.
I condemed the springs as they were allowing the tires to dissapear in the wheelwells before the lift. My shocks are shot too.
So, I am awaiting the funds to install new springs.

When I fill up my gas tank (Very rarely, in fact I have only ever filled it when I was on the way up to the dunes).. It leans to the left bigtime. I think that as the rear springs get tired and start losing there uumphh.. They become more sensitive to loads.. Mine squats right down with some good trailer weight on it..

Dive30...can't say for sure. Mine have been on for 6 mos. and so far so good.
For $40 and hardy no work I thought it was worth a try. If it starts to sag on the left again, I will just switch the helpers to the opposite side!
I have been pleased. send me an email in a year and I will let you know how they are holding up.

Hey Stauter! I have seen the half spring and full spring shakles (what we used to call 'em). I was leaning towardsw the full, andy ideas? Did the hald spring helper raise up the vehicle at all?

ernzo... I went with the 1/2 length because of the price and not knowing if it would work. They raised the rear 1" and actually seemed to make the ride better. Let me know if you try the full length. if they work good for you I will move my 1/2's to the front and install the fulls on the rear.
