Is there a switch I can sub for the front factory switch that operates the rear tailgate window? How would I check to see if its just a blown relay? It was working but I think it got stuck and blew a fuse, maybe? Oh its a 1991 GW

Check the tech library good stuff there.

Check your tailgate safety switch (driverside of the tailgate)

if the key switch in the tailgate is broken that will stop
it from working.

or here's a link (should be the same)

The rear keyed switch works, and the window works. I was thinking that the switch is broke or I blew a relay fuse? I'm trying to find out if there is a switch that will work off of a different car? I was able to fine a switch that worked for my sunroof off of a chevy that someone on this site told me about and was hoping somebody knew What would interchange on this switch, too.
ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS?

There is no relay or fuse. There are two 30 amp breakers on the fuse block, one for the keyed window switch and seats(always hot), the other for the dash window switch and rear defrost(on with acc/ig switch). Does your rear defog turn on? If not, check the breaker.

There is a harness under the rear driver side of the jeep with three wires in it, two large outer and one smaller in the middle. You can unplug this to check the operation of the front switch. The two larger wires coming from the front should sit at ground with the switch in the middle position. With the switch in the up position, one should be at 12 V+ and the other grounded, and vice versa with the switch in the lower position.

If this is good, then the rear switch may be at fault as it needs to be in perfect working order for the front switch to work. I've had good luck disassembling these switches and using a good contact cleaner on them (deoxit for example, don't get the cheap radio shack stuff).

My rear deforst I think is toast? I'm going to check the fuse first. Is that fuse just a straight 30 amp blade type fuse? When I first got the jeep the rear window would only go down about 4" then stop so I took tailgate panel off and I remember seeing defrost wire dangling (I think). I finally learned that I had to jiggle window when I'm trying to roll it down. Will the defrost wire need to be connected for the switch to work? Will that wire short out if it touch anything when I replace the fuse? Thanks for the help in advance!

If the wire going to the window was dangling, it wouldn't cause an issue unless the relay was engaging for the defrost. No the defrost does not need to be hooked up.

If you look at the fuse block, you'll see the two silver breakers at the top. They're tough to get out, chances are they've been in there since 1991 without removal.

You can carefully take the switch apart and clean the contacts with sandpaper. That is what it took to fix mine.

Also here is a link to a product that would work with some creative wiring:

If you look at the various switches, several of them have potential.
