I will be pulling an engine from my Wag and I have a chain hoist with nowhere to hang it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find a stand or something that I could hang the hoist from? I am working out on my driveway and I would like to avoid buying or renting a cherry picker if at all possible. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. smile.gif

You could try to find a place that rents engine hoists, there is a place near me that does this for $10 a day...or you could make a tepe from three logs, although this is kinda sketchy, i have seen motors get dropped doing it this way. I pull motors with my tractor, which works great, If you can find someone who has a tractor you can borrow, this would probably be the best way, especially for putting it back in, as you can easily position the motor where it needs to be. Good luck, hope it goes well.

i used a 2high pipe staging. but i worked with the stuff for years. my brother used a tripod made of three 16' 2x6s. this was nearly 40 yrs a go. i would rent an engine hoist. easiser and safer then most alternatives.

tri pods work great just make sure to chain the bottom legs so you don't drop the engine and have to yell 911

Before I bought a cherry picker. I use a hoist attached to a 4x8 beam which spanned the width of the vehicle and built 2 truss-like or teepee type legs. When it was done, it looked like a big sawhorse. You have to anchor one end to a big tree or tall fencepost or something so it doesn't flop over. It worked great and I thought it was safe.

Unless you have access to free lumber, you will spend as much for it as you would to rent a cherry picker. Plus, the cherry picker will roll.
