Was talking with Flint about this awhile back, I'm just trying to figure out how the belts go as nothing lines up. The setup is a dealer installed AC, the compressor mounts vertically and there is an idler pulley above the water pump directly in front of the outlet housing.

Sean,
Tequilla has the factory installed A/C. I'll get you a pic when I get home later today, so you can compare the two.

My '76 had the same setup when I first got it. I've got a couple pictures of how the belts were run but they're kind of hard to see. The belts are listed in order of what goes on first.
Belt 1: Crank, water pump, alternator
Belt 2: Crank, water pump, power steering pump
Belt 3: Water pump, A/C unit, A/C idler
The third belt was weird to me because it did not go around the crank pulley. There's not much clearance between the water pump and crank pulleys. If I recall correctly I had to loosen up the water pump pulley just to take it off.
If some of your accessories are off of a different vehicle they may not have the correct pulley. I went back and forth trying to find a matching set of pulleys for my spare motor.

well the forward most belt should go from the waterpump and crank to the ps pump the rear ps pump belt should go to a air pump. the rear two belts on the crank and wp should go to the ac and alt and that funky "idler" shouldnt be there.
ghinmi your truck is setup like it would be if it never came with ac but I think the ps pump belt would go on the front groove and then the air would be the same as on the ac equipped rig
edit I didnt notice that ghinmi had the idler too it doesent really need to be there but if it were me I would run 2 belts on the ac/alt because of the less than ideal contact with the belt that the alt has. i guess the older trucks with ac had the idler and later on amc cot rid of it because all of the 80s rigs ive seen didnt have it and had the setup that I explained

I'm fairly certain that mine came that way from the factory. The original owner had it until 2001 or 2002 and I bought it in 2004. The time between it was in the possession of a used car dealer that used it around his farm and aside from putting a body lift and big tires on it did not touch it. I actually met up with the original owner and he verified that everything on the truck was all original. The only thing that wasn't exactly the same as the day it was new was the exhaust (have receipts for a new one about every 5 years) and the conversion to a manual tailgate when it was a couple years old. It was not dealer stock (he ordered it) so I'm fairly certain it's a factory setup and not dealer installed.

Merely a suggestion.
Get the newer mounting for the compressor and do away with that mystery pulley.
The pulley on the compressor will have to be changed.

My 81 is similar, but not exactly the same. My AC is horizontal, and it doesn't have an idler pulley on top.
The inner power steering belt is for the air pump mounted beneath it. It doesn't go around anything else except for the PS and AP.

Your PS belt is installed wrong in the pics....
I probably still have a few AC brackets laying around.

Thanks guys. Kinda forgot how to put the alternator back in. It mounts just like the non AC Jeeps as the compressor is out of the way. Can anyone take a photo of how their alt sets up?
Thanks Janie.
Edit:
Thanks Ghinmi, exactly what I was looking for!

I thought about that but only the outer alt groove and the inner AC groove line up. I will keep ya'll posted.
