Anyone know of any good pull-it-yourself salvage yards in Atlanta/Decatur?

sure, there is a pull-a-part out buford highway (past norcross) and there is one at moreland avenue and 285. Unfortunately, I just visited both of them (looking for a factory air cleaner and charcoal cannister for my '78 j-10) and there wasn't a fsj in them. But you may want to check back in a few weeks.

Hey Kimbrough,

I promise this time I will actually go down to the yard I told you about before. Email me and I'll try to give you directions. As soon as my friend gets his tax return back, we will be spending a saturday at the yard. You are welcome to join us. The place has a mostly complete mid 80's wag, a 78 wag-no drive train, a early-mid 70's cherokee, a mid 70's J-10 and a J-4000. Email me, or call me if you still have the number. We'll likely be going the first or second weekend in may. I'll try to get you the number there and the dircetions soon. Later,

Daniel

It's the same place alright. Looks like it will be a big party! I may have to drive the jeep to fit all the parts. I'll be in touch.

Glad, I work in the same town and actually only live about 10-12 miles from the yard,if I'm out that way I'll swing by and look. I don't recall offhand if it had one or not,I do remember what was left of the bed was pretty badly rusted.
By the way first weekend in May I'll be available, have a kids fishing tourney the 2nd weekend.

It does have a tail gate. I checked it out for you once before, but couldn't get the digital camera. There is some rust, but it should be salvageable. We'll check it out. How much do you want to pay and in what condition? The owner is a pretty reasonable guy. I bought 4 33X12.5's there for $80. Two were nearly new and the others ok. I'll bring some kind of camera and we'll get some pics whenever we head that way, if Trickc doesn't get you all the info you need.

The Pull-A-Part place on Buford Highway doesn't have any FSJ's. I went there yesterday on my lunch. However, there is a salvage yard about a half mile south of there on Buford Hwy that does (its on the left as you head south). They have an '84 GW and a Limited (don't know what year). They will let you go into the yard on your own, but they have to pull the parts. Both vehicles are fairly intact. The limited still has its 2150. They both have most of the glass, interior, instruments, trim, etc. They didn't have center caps though :^(.

Daniel, is the place you are referring to in Zebulon? If so, I just called them looking for the center caps. They indicated they might have them, but owe me a call back. Also, are you a Tech fan?

I not so happily attend Tech. Happily except I am no fan of the Administration and it's priorities. But anyway.

The yard I refer to is off 675 on the southwest side of town. The yard in Zebulon is about an hour or south south of Atlanta. I don't know about their inventory, except they have a bunch of RUNNING vehicles. Zebulon is 15 mins from my hometown(where I live when not at tech or work, usually on the weekends). If you need the parts picked up, i might could help out. I also know of a couple of wags in Athens that have interior parts and glass, but no drivetrain etc. I usually alternate between heading to athens or to Barnesville/Zebulon each weekend, so I might have time to go on a parts run after finals next week.

Clarkston, are you a student or Graduate of Tech?

The salvage yard south of Pull A Part on the Buford Hwy is R&R. I've been going there on and off over the past year and I've found that they cycle the cars in and out regularly. Two weeks ago they only had an '84 but a couple of months ago they had 4 FSJ's. You can call them at 770-448-6485 to find out what they have on the lot. They let you pull the small stuff yourself but, for an engine or tranny, they do it. Much of my GW has come from there.

BTW, I graduated from GT in '86. Love the tradition ... Go Wreck!
