im looking for a 208 t case to replace the broken up n228.
would a 208 from a ford work?
if it does what else would i need.
would i need a adapter plate.

this is on a 84 grand wagoneer

The NP208 for American Motors Jeep applications to 727 is a direct bolt up. The other ones, Dodge, Ford, Chevy - require other mods/upgrades to make them work, if at all.

OK, I don't know this for sure but I have heard the T18 4 speed applications for the AM 208 (J20 1980-87) uses different spline count?

The T176/177 4 speeds and the Torque Flight 727 spline count and bolt pattern are the same for the AM208 for 1980-91.

The'80's J20 t-18 208 has 32 splines,the rest are all 23 spline

Since you had a 228 I assume you have a 727 which from the above -> you need a 23 spline 208 from either a T176 manual rig or any 1980 + auto FSJ.
