If you could have built the 1978 cherokee chief with modern stuff what would you put in it.
Seats
Engine
paint
interior
tires and rims
Remember it needs to be streetable...
Just looking for what everyone would do if they had the money...
thanks.:drivin:

I like my 79 the way it is I think all I would add would be a cd player and maybe some air for the 110 degree days.
Paint wise I like any thing that doesn't show rust or primer.

I am building an '82 Cherokee 6cyl/5 speed to be a daily driver and some mild 'wheeling.
I had the rust around the antenna and driver's side cowl removed and repainted the whole car.
New carpet from BJs and new headliner. Herculined the interior - quieted it down and I shouldn't have to worry about rust in the floorboards.
In the junkyard found some nice leather power seats from a '98 Grand Cherokee to replace the stock ones.
Plans:
Get the power steering box, pump, and hoses from the '98. Trying to get rid of the vague '60 feel steering.
Buy a doner '90s era Wrangler or Cherokee with Chrysler fuel injection. Swap the head, manifolds, sensors and wiring onto my 258 block. Should be good for around 190 hp.
I've got the wide wheel Cherokee with 31X10.5X15 tires. Thinking of going to 33X10.5X15, they are only 1" larger diameter so they should fit. I need to find 10.5" though, most 33"s are 12.5" wide and will probably rub at full stuff.

1. Heated, lumbar, electric seats (leather, of course) - I find the GW seats quite uncomfortable
2. Fuel Injection. I went LT1, but I like the idea of a 4.6 stroked I6 too
3. I have a paint scheme dancing around in my noggin' waiting for my '88. I like the thin woodgrain in the metal trim on the '70's rigs. I think something that paid homage to that design would be nice. Maybe with a modern Jeep color?
4. -Shoulder belts all around
-Decent dash lighting! I can't see my heater controls at night..
-Speakers in appropriate locations,
-Well-designed center console that fit the dash design, etc.,
-Maybe an overhead console,
-Custom door panels with better arm rests that are at a better height
5. On a chief, maybe 2" lift and 32"s or 33"s should sit nicely without being too tall. I have 4" and 32's on my GW. The floorboard height is a challenge for most of the finer gender, but it looks right to me. I would not go higher for a daily driver.
I like the aluminum slots as well as the 80's turbine rims if you are trying to use stock stuff..
