Ok i couldn't find the Proper qt fluid a few months ago when i had pulled it out. SO i mixed up per the instruction in the mannual of LSD fliud and ND 30w oil. Seemed ok for a while then it started leaking and only got filled with ND30w oil.I know the brake cones are slipping now i can hear it but i am planning on making this a part time case down the road. BUT i decided to remove the front shaft and lock it in Edrive to save as much wear on them as possible. When I did this it started out ok but at about 20 to 30 mph there was a loud bang from around the QT area under the floor. It countinued to happen intermitenly so bad that i had to put the front shaft back in then it stopped doing it. ANy ideas what this might be? I checked all of the tranny/ transfercase and engine mounts there was one bolt a little lose but tightening it didn't help at all still a very loud bang every min. or so.
Next time you do the fluid change...put the 8oz of LSD concentrate in FIRST and it goes into the reduction unit(if you have one) then top off the reduction unit with the motor oil and add the remaing oil to the x-case. You'll need to do some figure eights in a parking lot somewhere for 10-15 minutes to get the juice mixed well.
You say you didn't get the LSD modifier into the x-case and you put the front shaft back in? That is a SURE way to trash the clutch cones. The LSD modifier is critical.
The banging you hear...my guess would be the chain jumping. Odds are if your clutch cones are already going south(takes quite awhile under normal use) your chain has prolly been loose and out of spec for quite awhile already. They usually go long before the clutches do.

That is what i did wiht the lsd althought i though it was in the tc first then the reduction unit. OK if it is the chain the why wont it do it with the front shaft back in and it doesn't do it on hard acceleration just light pedal like crusing around town at 20-30 it has not done it since i put the front shaft back but would do it every time with it out?

Since the E-drive takes the brakecones out of the equation.... sounds like the chain is worn and popping over the gears under load...if you are light on the throttle, does it still do it?
The E-drive coupling ring may be worn as well... though I have never seen this coupler wear out.

No that is what i mean. It will do it under NO load like coasting or light pedal. But it hasn't done it with the front shaft back in even when I stomp on the gas. What about this e-drive coupling ring? More info please

If there is no popping when the front shaft is on...that means you take it out of E-Drive and the coupling ring has no affect. You may have to tear into it to inspect the internals of the QT center diff...I have pics on my site that show what to look for when disassembled.
