I plan to replace the exhaust system on my J20 soon. I'm running a 401, bored 30 with an Edelbrock Performer/Carter Competition 500cfm combo and an RV cam (I forget what the exact specs on it are). The tires are BFG AT @ 33". Rear gear is 4.11.

Any ideas on what type of exhaust system I should install?

I was thinking of a set of headers with exhaust exiting into 2 1/2" pipes merging in front of a Flowmaster muffler. The tailpipe, I figure, should be a 3".

How about some input on this? What make of header should I use?

Thanks.

The direction your going seems to be sound (no pun intended). Go to the Search function of this BB and enter "exhaust" or similar. Bet you find the info you need.

i would do all of that but i would use the cast exhaust manifolds for low end tourqe you not running over 3,500 most of the time so headers really don't do you much good. the dual into a single makes the most tourqe i think you'll be pleased with the flowmaster .
