Well now that I am finished rebuilding the dana 20 with the Tera Low 20, I am on to the transmission.
Made it all the way to step three! I am having trouble removing the mainshaft bearing. I do not have a bearing puller long enough for the huge input shaft.
Does any one have a puller? Willing to pay shipping both ways. Or any advice for alternate methods for removing this bearing?
Tried heating it up with map gas torch and tapping the shaft with a hammer and a block of wood.
Thanks
Sears sells a 3 jaw puller that will work on the rear mainshaft bearing. The input shaft is a different story. I used a block of wood under the shaft and a brass punch. A few hundred taps and it came right off, dont forget to remove the pain in the @ss snap ring first. And make sure you install the input shaft & bearings before the main shaft assembly and use lots of grease or vasoline to hold the roller bearings in place. A 1" wood dowel 18 or so inches long works great for holding the countershaft roller bearings in place. Good luck.

Thanks for replying.
Were you able to remove the front drive shaft assy, and then remove the bearing from the shaft?
The gear behind the front shaft hits the lower set of gears when I try to get the whole assy out with the bearing still attached. Looks like the shaft and gear would come out easily if it could be tilted after front bearing removal.
What your have to do is pull the rear bearing off first and then remove the mainshaft assembly. Its a tight fit but it will come out, be carefull not to pull the first gear hub too far aft or your first/second shifting plates, balls & springs will go flying across the garage. Then drive the countershaft out. Once its out the countershaft gear assy. will drop down allowing you to remove the input shaft with the bearing still on it.
