Is the Buick 350 in the J3000 Gladiator, the same motor that is in regular buick cars? I would like to drop a HEI distibuter in my 69 Gladiator. Thanks :D

I've got HEI and a Quadrajet on mine.Could'nt be happier with that setup. That's all that really needed to be changed on that engine.

They're the same as the Buick car 350's. Great torque motors. Can be built to deliver alot of hp as well although some of the cams move the power band kinda of high unless you're a mud runner or dune rat. Little known fact is that the BUick 350 is about 100 pounds lighter than the chevy 350 and has more torque in stock form. THe Buick GS350 motor came with 315 hp and almost 400 ft/lb of torque. My 350 was built to GS 350 specs, high compression heads and solid lifter cam, and is a bit radical for the wheeling I do when the wag is togeather. I'm thinking of changing the cam to something a little saner. (the real GS350 cars had vacume resevours for the brakes because the cam developed so little vacume) Rat is right all you need to do is add a 4-barrel and HEI to really make your motor run right. (the 2-barrel and low compression 4-barrel motors use the same cam and develope 230 & 285HP respectfully)(sorry about the spelling errors no speel check and I spell like s**t)

Cool that is all I needed to know, I really want to pep it up some and with a 4 speed and 4:27 gears. I think HEI, A 4 barrel carb and a small cam should do the trick. I just wanted to make sure they were the same, I thought so, but have been wrong before. Thanks

Rat,

the HEI you've got - is it an aftermarket thing or a Chevy distributor will fit?

peterI would imagine it would have to be an HEI out of a 74 up Buick engine, I dont think a Chevy distributer will fit the Buick engine.

I had planned on taking one out of a newer Buick car, along with the wires and just drop it in and go. I hope

I have a 69 wag W/ 350 buick. I've been to pick a part and have looked at several candidates for the hei distrib. All later model buicks. The diameter of the cap is larger but should'nt be a problem for clearance. I have researched the topic and it is recommended to use the distrib. from a buick. Also, make sure that the module inside has 4 pins not 5 and not 7. I am going to pull my distrib. on monday and go pick one up at the yard. I want to change it over before I rebuild the engine so I don't have any surprises when I go to start my new motor with new carb, cam, etc.....I will let you know how it goes and what year, models etc...

Don't forget to upgrade your coil feed wire to a heavier guage.
