I thought the pan gasket on my 727 was leaking so I replaced it, (and the filter while I was at it.) I put on a new finned pan as well. The leak is still there. It looks like it is leaking around the gasket, but the pan was snugged up tight when I reinstalled it. Is there any place a leak can occur above the pan. It is leaking on the passenger side but not around the dipstick. The side of the case also looks dry from what I can see.

the pans are easily warped, but you said that you put a new one on, so, unless they were damaged in transit, that's out of the question. Try taking the pan & laying it on a flat surface, if it isn't flat, that's your problem. If not, there's a chance that you may have stripped a bolt or two while taking them out/putting them back in. Did you over-tighten it?

There's a seal on the 'shift lever / linkage' that goes. When it leaks the oil runs down to the pan gasket and spreads. This looks as if the pan gasket is leaking again. Mines doing it and tranny shop guy say's $250 to pull the tranny and replace the $3 seal!!. takes a couple of minutes once the tranny's out :(
If you a Haynes manual, see page 7B-7 illustration 7.9. lever/linkage is just above the arrow.

Graham is right,,, mine did that too, but mine was fixed without pulling transm,,they claim, and charged $125,, I think dropping valve body enabled him to get to it, I'm guessing thats what happened.

Thanks guys. Did they appear to be leaking from teh passenger side when the shift lever seal was leaking? It appears dry on the drivers side where the lever is located. OF course it is really hard to get a light or see clerly up in there. I might try a mirror on a stick, and take a close look tonight when I get home.
