 Ok, I had to replace a few freeze plugs on Jenn's Chero after we got it... I used the expanding type. Well, drove around, and one now looks like it was getting sucked into the block. Did I somehow over tighten the plug, or was it just faulty? I've never heard of there being negative pressure on the water jacket area. Other than the water loss at the plug, there are no leaks on the motor, very good compression, good oil pressure, no water in oil, or vice versa... The freeze pluge woulda been replaced with press in's, but they are the plugs behind the motor mounts, and I didn't want to pull the motor just to replace them... We need this one on the road... ;)

Is there any chance you might have an exhaust leak into the cooling system? Just thinking if there was, there could be enough flow to cause some suction sucking in the freeze plug...

Not sure how to check that although I'd love to know, cuz I think I have this problem myself; but my freeze plugs are holding...

I think an exhaust leak into the water jacket would pressurize the water, not try to create a vacuum.

It's more than likely the effect of the water pump, than anything else, since that's supposed to be the only thing moving water in the block.

Jude, do the plugs you use have a larger washer on the "outside" of the plug? If not, they should, just to keep this from happening. If they don't, you might try making your own out of about 18 gauge sheet metal.

:D Yeah, lindel, the plugs do have the larger washer on the outside... the one plug 'tacoed' though... the outer washer folded in half, like it was sucked in. I found the packages, and I did follow the directions, they are warranted, so I guess I'll have to pop it out, and try again
