I always sort of thought my Jeep was as slow as it was because it was so heavy... I mean it will get up to 100 on the freeway but its no sports car... Or should I say WASN'T.

I fixed the fuel sender so the pickup wasn't being held on by the mud anymore and cleaned the fuel pickup sock... Now not only does the clear filter fills with gas instead of air with splashes of gas coming in 1 second or so incriments (I guess I just assumed this was normal to?.. LOL DUH). Now the jeep fairly FLYS (incidentally I also removed all seats except the drivers in preparation for rhino liner which I am sure helps a little bit). I went from doing 0-60 in about 11-12 self operated stopwatch timed seconds to about 5-6... I could be off because the speedo bounces around and I am operating it myself (watching speedo with my hand on the button) but I should be off by the same amount each time... Thus perserving the ration. I would not have believed something that heavy could accelerate that fast... I left an honest to god pair of dark black burnt rubber lines on the road 20 feet long and I still can't wipe the Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley eating grin off my face!

It just seems like such a small amount of time between stopped with foot on break to "scary fast"... First time I tried it I did not look at the speedo for a couple second and when I looked down I was doing 70... On a road where 70 is not a safe speed!

Oh yeah: Carpeting gone.. A few rusted hole in the floor that need patching... The jeep is LOUD when you step on it.

Also: It still occasionally dies if I give it gas to quick... Need to figure that one out.

Accelerator pump is a possibility. Might wanna grab a rebuild kit and give the carb a once over.

My accelerator pump leaks ever so slightly so a rebuild is definitely on the list.

Now it has stalled and won't run at all though... Not good.

My Jeep hates me. How to make it love me again?

A neighbor kindly towed it off the road to my house for me with his tractor while i was at work.

Now at least it home to work on... On the list of parts:
Fuel sender
Fuel filter(s) (its new but the clear filter was clogged so I removed it so I am guessing the other one needs replacing now as well.. Debris in the gas)
Tubing (replacing the rubber stuff I used with actual fuel hose... It does not seem to be causing the problems but I might as well be safe)
Carb rebuild kit. Its probably never been done.. Nearing 200K miles it seems to need it.

In the distant future (aka when the engine dies.. HOPEFULLY distant future): Complete engine rebuild.

One of these days it WILL be reliable enough to not die every 5 minutes... Of course now the oil gauge is reading lower than normal pressure... I am HOPING its just electrical/gunk in the sensor.... I guess I will have to look into that as well.

*sigh*
