I'd like to give my hunting rig a "bit" of lift but I don't want to break the bank or get involved with linkage, steering or shock mods. Anybody got any ideas?

Add-a-leaf up front and blocks in the rear, or a body-lift. Either can give you 3" for under $100.

Will the leaf and blocks require any other mods? From what I've read the body lifts can be a real pain too. Wudda ya think?

Hey Bob,
Also, how do the "blocks" work and where do ya buy them? Is "Add-a-leaf" a trade name and where do ya buy them?

blocks you put between the rear axle and rear springs

add-a-leafs you add to the front spring packs

nets you a nice set-up - horribly stiff ride in the front, and plenty of axle hop in the rear.

i still have blocks in the rear, but i ditched the half-inch-thick pro-comp add-a-leaved and rebuilt the front spring pack, adding three new leaves in process. with some generous amouns of grease, they flex better than what i had with add-a-leaves.

you can buy blocks at nearly any PepBoys or Kragen/Shucks/Checker etc., add-a-leaves are off-the-shelf item at Off Road Warehouse or Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers.

SUSPENSION FLEXABILITY
The AAL in front does make for a stiff ride. I went to a spring shop and got a re- arch and AAL and blocks in the rear.
... A strong spring rate in the front (2”AAL) can help prevent rollovers in off camber conditions. And avoid excessive body roll-over tendencies when you make a high speed avoidance maneuver or sharp turn if the front sway bar is strong and still connected.

... When used with a light stock spring rate (2” blocks) in the rear, and no sway-bar but plain very HD rear shocks, can still have a nice amount of flexing and yet great high speed control. With the two inch lift I didn't have to change brake lines or shocks.
... I don't 'air-down'(much) and never disconnect the sway-bar. This concept is cheap and works well on my 2" lifted Wagoneer.
Good Luck http://www.michiganjeepers.com/forums/images/graemlins/wave.gif and CUL … ds..

ps .. After 5 - 6 years the re-arch has sagged 'bout an inch.

AAL's aren't good if your springs aren't arched anymore. They may improve the springs slightly, but will likely wear out fast.
AALs are nice with half-way decent springs, but are like a band-aid for old, wore out ones....
If you want lift, do a SOA, and you'll have gobs of altitude..... :D
But then again, if you're poor like me, and your springs are still ok, go ahead and get the AALs.

BTW- LOVE THE CAMO, Redbeard! Got any close-ups???? smile.gif
