New to the forum old to FSJ. I am looking at a 1979 jeep cherokee chief it has carb issue and rear end issue all in all 4out of 10 with pickup bed full and a couple boxes of parts. then here pops up a 1978 J-10 Honcho, runs drives spare set wheels and tire Levis edition. Both 360 stock ride height QT,s. So which one would be the better toy, moderate trail truck no trailer queens, but no lift and no outrageous tires either.

Wife will like the wag for sure, warm cozy and safe
You will like the truck, noisy cold and fun as hell:thumbsup:

wife will own half the wag
probably won't touch the truck:thumbsup:

buy both and rent a garage or tarp for the truck
this way you both win and you always have your own fsj

almost forgot
when one breaks down you can use the other to tow it

It is a lot easier to load stuff in a pick up. How good are your mechanical skills? Which one looks better?

Well the Chief needs rear flares and the ring and pinion were not set up right so the rear end howls bad. The truck is fairly solid. The Chief has the low range the Truck does not.

Get the one that looks the prettiest then the wife won't mind being seen in it

So I think I am leaning towards the Honcho. Just got off the phone with the Owner and it sounds like it is in better mechanical shape. Alsocould drive it home if i wanted Chief would have to go on a trailer and take a few to get on the road.

You should call fast if you want that $700 truck or else it would be sold. $700 is a very good price for that truck.

I have had many problems with tailgate window going down in my 1990 Grand Wagoneer so a pick up will probably be better.

Welcome to the Madness of FSJ.

Save the Honcho! :drivin:

Low Range mod is easy and should not be hard to find for $50 and up. You know you have reasons for a truck to haul stuff. Man stuff. It is simple math. Get the Honcho! :D :D :D :D

Hey, does that ad say 700 as in 700r4 tranny instead of T400? If so, it would be nice to have the OD for the street.

Well I am the proud owner of a 1979 Cherokee Chief around 178xxx on the odometer with one know overhaul. The truck was a little far right now to get and I already have a tow rig. Hard to fight for a 1/2 ton when you own a F450 pickup.

Sounds like you made the right choice, then.

Your F450 is now your official "Rescue Vehicle".

Now go buy the JTruck too so you can drive something when you get tired of the back window/tailgate trouble in rainstorms. ;)

Heres the plan just head out with the f45o and tell her that you got there and you had to buy the Honcho to tow the f450 back and you were already obligated for the cherk. You can then alway convince her that one is the parts store for th other. What do you think!!!
