I just got a Buick TH400, D-20, PTO, 8000# Warn winch with drive shaft, Factory FSJ bumper, Edelbrock "torker" manifold, and a set of headers that look like they go over the frame. Not sure yet. Heres a pic.

Congratulations. Did someone get new tools for Christmas? Looks like some desireable parts you scored there. They do look like fenderwell headers. Were they on a FSJ? Very popular with the CJ crowd.

That's a factory Jeep winch bumper. Not one of those hidden ones that's afraid to show it's face in public. :p

The tranny, winch, ect, came out of a '71. The intake and headers were a bonus to the deal so I'm not sure what they were used for. I might try to use them on a trail rig I'm gathering pats for.

I also made a deal with another friend for a 7.5L caddy motor from a '79 Fleetwood. Been reading up on bolting it to the Buick tranny....

TOYS, TOYS, TOYS.....

Now I just need a T-18A...

that PTO might be worth some $$ without the winch

I've got a wrecker I've slowly been gathering parts for. This was one of the hard ones. I'm gonna pull the beat up wrecker bumper off it and put the winch on the front of it.

Can I run both ends of the PTO? The belly winch is PTO also and this one has front and rear stubs.Am I right and thinking as long as the front is in Neutral, I could use the rear, and verse-visa?

Yes, you can run off both ends of that PTO, that's one of the things I really like about the D20 unit! Didja see that Holmes push bumper I picked up yesterday? http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?p=855324#post855324

YES, thats a piece of IRON...
My wrecker has the same one on it without the grill guard on the top and mine has MANY wrinkles in it. Its not as purty as yours, thats why I decided to swap it out. I'll trade you mine for a T-18A.....:D

I'm having a conflict now....
Do I rebuild the 401 and wait for a T-18 so its close to correct, OR, do I through this 512 cc Caddy with the TH400 and play with it 'till I find the right parts??????

Decisions, decisions......

Im all for AMC power, but 512 ci would get the job done. Sounds tempting.

You see my delema.....

The 401 needs a crank and rebuild, the Caddy runs as of now and is still in the car. I also got a TBI off a 454 I could put on it.
I cant tell if I'm describing what I have, or trying to talk myself into it?!?!?!:banghead:

The only way that Caddy engine is a 512 is with a stroker kit, stock will be a 472. The last one I built was $2000 just for the 529ci kit. I think my brother has $9k in the Caddy swap for his '86 Blazer and man is that engine strong.

The sticker on the front rad support says its a 7.5L. I had a Chevy builder tell me its a 512. Its a stock '79 Fleetwood Broughm. Is that a 472? Someone school me please......

Any input from the Caddy guys?

Elliott

Quite talking to your Chevy builder... for ever. There aren't any 7.5 L 512s anywhere on this planet. I think a 500 is 8.0L. Sounds like a 472.... at best. (and I'm no Caddy guy) You'll never be able to wind that caddy up like a built 401, but if it runs, it's cheap and you are looking at thousands to build your 401 I'd say plant in there and take your time building a real motor. ;)

So... about 8.2L then, wasn't sure if that's the spec Chevy used on the 502 but what the heck, close enough.

That makes sence. Thanks for clearing me up. I'm leaning towards the Caddy with auto just to be able to FINALLY drive this truck. Now, if I could just get out of working on it in this MUD!!!!!
