Yes, my friends I finally fixed the 4-wheel drive. Here in Jersey we are getting record amounts of snowfall. I got up this morning, sucked it up and marched in knee deep snow to the garage.
I first was gonna check the fluid level in the Transfer case, and decided to try and put a vacuum line on x-fer case vent thingy.
I did neither. I started to mess with the lines going to the firewall to the 2-4 wheel switch inside the jeep. I knew that the red line went to the little vacuum ball. I didn't know what to do with the yellow and green lines. So, I decided to just take turns plugging them into my new vacuum lines from the front differential until something worked. This is of course with the jeep completely up in the air to tell for sure.
To make a long story short it worked. I can't believe that I guessed right the first time. Reason being that I disconnected that matchup cause I couldn't understand why the front left tire wouldn't rotate. I tried different setups and ended up loosing everything. After that I started looking for my manual, which I couldn't find. I then started thinking that with all things being equal and me not knowing what the f%ck I was doing, that I could probably hook one line up to vacuum and get the coupling or whatever the hell the thing is, to engage the gears back into sync. I tried different ways and got more than a little grinding going back to park. I then started hearing a his or a vacuum sound from the 2-4 selector. I think I was close. I did all this in 2 wheel drive when I think I should have been doing it in 4 wheel drive cause when I went back to 4 wheel drive to try it out it worked. The wheels started spinning again in the back and I said a A-MEN.
I then opened the garage doors while in 4 hi and backed her out. Needless to say I incountered a little resistance. I then tried to put her in 4 lo while in Park, but the lever woouldn't move and I wasn't gonna force it. I then said let's try it in Neutral. BINGO, she did it! I even felt a low torgue growl. I punched it a little and she went back like a bat outta hell. OOhhhhh yeah!
She got stuck a couple of times until I rocked her a little. I finally got her lined up for the street which was about 30 feet and I punched it. She took off and plowed through the snow effortlessly. I got to the end of the droveway and waited for traffic to clear and hit the last hurdle which is the dip from the driveway to the street and also the snow plows current piling of snow. I hit it turned right and sped away. I had my left fist out the window screaming like a mad man! I know my neighbors were like what the hell was wrong with him.
That's when I thought,"4-WHEELIN BABY".

I then hooked a left at the next light pulled over and put her back in 4 hi and drove off smiling forever... tongue.gif

WOW! I didn't know you guys leave it in 4-wheel drive like that. Remember before when I said that all the wheel spun, but the front left. Well when I came home I started to move down the driveway after putting the groceries on the deck and I saw snow kick up. So, I guess that the front wheels have like a limited slip thing workin.
I am glad that she works cause I really needed it to. You see I have my Impala ss in the body shop from part of the garage falling on it. Just go to my site and check out the pics.
Thanks...
