As a I prepare to replace the water pump, Bob mentioned it would be a good time to replace the timing chain. So, here's the question.

Does the 360 engine have the type of timing chain/valve setup that if the chain skips or goes, then a piston could drive up and hit and valve? I've heard horror stories of the timing chain going (like on Hondas) and completely trashing an engine. And I heard it's not that uncommon. Inquiring minds want to know, if the 360 falls in that camp. Thanks.

No, the 360 is a non-interference motor.

Read the thread about timing set defects that will keep your distributor gears and timing chain from getting oiled. Cliff's notes: make sure your cam timing sprocket has a half-round oil passage all the way thru the hub at the hole where it mounts on the camshaft nose.

My favorite subject lately, hope folks are getting tired of hearing about it!!
