View Full Version : Front spring relocation

I need to move the front springs on my J10 so they mount outboard of the frame to work with the front axle I want to run. I'd like to still use my same lift springs, can I swap to early pre '74 spring hangers? Are they stong enough to hold up to catching air w/D60, 44" swampers and a 454? Will these springs bolt up to them?
Any other suggestions?
thanks

would it be worth the hassle to move them forward while I was at it to gain a better approach angle? How would this affect steering geometry? I'm planning on having to make custom driveshafts anyway.

Why not just move the perches on the axles? It would be a lot easier and probably faster.

I'll have to do that too, but if I use the springs in their current location, I'd have to put the perch on the diff housing and I'd rather not do that. I think it would be best to move the springs out and then weld the perches SOA.

getting the early mounts is a major job as they go thru the frame have a cap over the frame and are welded to the frame at the post and riveted to hold the inner and outter to the frame. You would be better off geting some off the rear of another brand of truck. The problem you will have is that the 44's will rub the springs when turning. The best approach is to have a pro with a TIG welder weld them to the diff and keep the springs under the rails.

Joe,

You are better off relocating the spring perches on the axle tubes.....MUCH easier and will DEFINITELY take the abuse... if my 44's can take it with 39's.... why wouldn't a 60?...food for thought... ;)
