Without going into a long story, let's just say my day was made longer by forgetting to remove the TH 400 ring from the back of the crankshaft on the 401 that I just dropped into my J-20.

Lucky I figured out what was wrong before I snugged up the bellhousing bolts.

Mistakes make us realize that we are alll human.

Second. :banghead:

I knew about this bushing for years before I got my 401.....But when the day came to put the motor in I forgot. I was to pumped up that I was putting my 401 in.

Larry: how true. I have know about it too. It's so thin you can't even see it. I was so pumped about droppin the 401 in that I just did it. Lucky for me I did not completely secure the bellhousing bolts and I noticed the convertor was pushed way back and the tiny convertor bolts would not reach. Pulling the 401 out was only another 20 minutes. Unbolting the headers was a PITA. Today I need to figure a clean way to remove the bushing.

It's a lot of fun figuring this out the hard way. It also make you pretty good at putting in and pulling out the engine until you figure out what's wrong. Did mine on 360 that was bolted to a TH400. Was putting the 360 in to a Cherokee with a 727.

Now I get to go the other way. I'm putting the 401 that was mated to the 727 into my other Cherokee with a TH400.

What comes out must go back in. (I'm on the Jeep recycling program.)

Lucky for me the nose is off and I had the right set up. Removing and reinstalling the headers was the slowest part. All total it cost me an extra 45 minute.
