A long and chilling story- My driver's side window stuck in the down position the other day. I looked up the window track replacement tips and went to the dealer for some track. Boy I don't know what I did wrong but I can NOT get that nylon (plastic) track off! The one from the dealer doesn't look quite the same but it doesn't matter since I figured I would take it back to get the right one. I did get an anodized bracket off (held on with 7/16" bolt) and can't get it back on and can't get the window back up. I shut the door and it locked and won't unlock. The battery's dead 'cuz I jacked around too long with the door open. Its 9 degrees and I'm creeped out! Guess I'll mess with it this weekend. Any tips? how far should I go to get this j track out? Is there a way to release the window so I can get it up? ???

Boy Dan,
I'm sure glad my window isn't broke in 9 degree weather. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif If I remember right, the track should just "run" off if you run the motor in the down position. Or maybe the up position, can't remember for sure. Its been while since I had to do that. Of course you will have to charge the battery first. Should be a pretty simple job. I think there is an article in the tech formun. Or search the archives. This has been dicussed before.
GOOD LUCK

The way I'v done it is to loosen the entire window motor/track assembly (torx screws) and clean it and grease it before putting the new track on. This is done while the assembly is still in the door but unbolted. The old track can be slide off and the new one slide on through one of the hole in the rear part of the door. If the door won't lock it could be frozen http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif or the window assembly is not put back correctly and jammed the lock linkage.

Just was working on my d/s window 'cause it has been so warm (almost 40 F)

Get ye battery inside and charged, they can freeze more easily when discharged.

I'm guessing a bit as to where you are stuck 'cause I can't think of any hex bolts that I had to remove. The hex bolts on mine (85) attach to the tracks the window edges slide in. They stay put for this repair.

The screws that hold the "J" track and motor assembly are button head screws. Mine had torx heads.

My guess is that there is still a long section of old track attached to your window.
On the bottom of the glass there is a horizontal plate with a long horiztontal slot in it. The plate is attached to the glass with two hex head screws. You need to get the flex track detached from the slot. On my P/s this required turning the nylon piece on the outside (farside) of the slot 90 degress. On my d/s I had the replacement/new style which unscrews with an allen key or torx head, or in my case with a drill bit!

When the window is all the way down and the track is loose or off, the glass can rest on the door lock linkage holding it down! Just lift the glass and you should be able to unlock. My PO temporery fix (3-4 years) to keep the glass up was a small wood wedge in the inside weather strip. Helpful during the repair process, too.

Good luck

Well, I'm still out of commision but I got the battery charged, etc. The window had dropped onto the lock mechanism and boy was that a ***** to get unlocked! I'm afraid I have disassembled more than I should have but I STILL can not get the nylon torx screw out. I can't get to it. The window will not go up any farther than about 4". I can't work on it today but I'll let you know if I learn anything. I may have to take it to a glass place or a mechanic shop.
