He wants $700... It's a 90 with a shot out side window. Not bad though just with a Bee Bee gun. Needs a PS hose and a bolt for the PS pump mount so wont start and drive just yet but I know a few people who have seen it run so I think it wont take much work.

What to do...
Found this one in Anchorage, 370 miles away, for $1100.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c57/AKCJ8/Jeep1-1.jpg
Looks great in the photo but it's a long way to drive... I was going to get the other one here for $700 this weekend but it needs some work. Broken window, carpets adn rear seat are out, PS pump issues... This one seems like the better deal to me even though it will take a full day of driving to get it here. It does have teh wood graned trim removed on the passenger front fender but looks clean everywhere else.

I would show the $700 guy a picture of the $1100 one and then offer him $350...
Or get the $1100 guy to come down a couple hundred and it is worth the drive.

That 1100 one looks SWEET... I would snap that up.... Actually I would not even WANT one that nice looking because I would just wheel it and get it banged up.

That 1100 looks a lot better than the other one. I drove 425 miles one way for mine, just gave me a chance to road trip on my GW.

And you'll bottom out in the snow on those running boards. You could plow snow with those if you get her sliding sideways. They gotta go! Why would one of these in stoc form need running boards anyway? They arent that high.

I think the $1100 one looks pretty good. The other one is very questionable, I find myself hating to believe what someone who is motivated to sell telling me how easy it would be to get their vehicle running again. And what's with the driver's door? I think that if you were to get that $700 non-runner, you are going to spend the $400 difference between it and the $1100 one very quickly and you might kick yourself later. BTW those running boards might be aluminum and you could scrap them and make a little back ;). My .02.

Pack survival gear. A buddy and I drove an unknown Volvo up to Anchorage from Seattle over Christmas break one year. It was -39* in Prince George but it made it fine. We had gear with us for most events that might have occurred. Our only real problem was needing to add a can of gas tank drier at every fill up or the moisture in the fuel wanted to freeze in the lines.

I spoke with the owner on the ph for the first time this morning. He's an elderly man and the original owner. Everything works other then the left blinker kill and he said it starts fine as long as it's driven regularly. Said if it sits it needs alot of pumping like the floats drain out over time. Any ideas there? I'm hopping this will start and drive well enough for an auto start install. Plans are to keep it as the daily driver wit maybe a 2 or 3 in BJ lift and if I ever run across a good 80's J20 do a crew cab with it if the other projects are done.

auto start won't work, the gas needs to be pumped at least one time to set the choke on a carb.

Got her home safe and sound. And at -32F most of the trip too.
Only issue was the engine temp. Never came above 150 or out of the blue area on the stock gauge. Even at -32 it should be warming up. When I got home I found the radiator cap was not sealing. I could squeez to top hose and hear it hiss at the cap. Would that keep it from warming up to operating temp? I plan to get a new cap tomorrow and if that doesn't fix it I'll get a new T-stat.
Has some pretty high oil pressure too. At hwy speed I'm getting 75 PSI. Idle is 40 or so. It's got 5 w 30 in it now and i plan to switch to 10 w 30 or 10 w 40.
Needs a bath but it's warming up in the garage and seem happy enough in it's new digs. :D

loose cap wouldn't make it run cool. thermostat will, but a -32 it's gonna run cool.

If your getting 40PSI warm at idle dont change it to the thicker oil or you'll really hear those lifters and valves in the morning. Unless you plan to install a pre-oiler like alot of the oil line trucks have.
X2 on the cap, a loose cap would only allow coolent to escape from the system. Nice find though and nice to hear you got home safe.
Next time call me and Ill come up to Alaska to get it for you, then maybe I could get the wife to move there........"But honey my friend needs some help with his Jeep." ;) :D

Oh and I wont be changing the oil. I was thinking the 5 w 30 was the warmer weather blend and had it back words. But doesn't 80 PSI seem kind of high or is that the norm for these engines? It does have a rear main leak but nothing bad for a 90K engine.

Cap won't make it run cooler but thermostat will, I ran my j10 today in 3 degree weather, always runs same temp. just goes up to the edge of the normal line on the gauge and that's it, running a 192 degree thermostat
might want to check that gauge as well, hope the heater works for you, oil pressure sounds high as I have ever heard or seen , again I would hook up a manual gauge and see what that says as fsj gauges are not the best in the world ,high end oil pressure can be controlled via a new relief valve, very nice rig

Glad to hear you made it back safely.
I love road trips. I have a habbit of buying vehicles in other states. My scrambler was in WV, my nissan was in AL, my J20 was in NC, and my M4 was in FL.
the carb is very simple to rebuild. It sound to be the accerator pump that reside in the bowl area.. they leak? make sure your fuel filter return line is on top.. at 12 o'clock.. nice looking - you made a good choice on your selection.:fsj:

That's a ridiculously nice looking Wag! And for $1100, wow. Great choice on that over the $700 one if it runs as well as it appears to. $400 goes reeeaalllly fast if you're trying to get one back into good running condition.
And on that $700 one, that driver side door did indeed look a little weird. More than just missing wood. Looked like it was a big patch panel or something.
Another thought since you said you weren't going to change the oil... It's a 20 something (don't remember exactly what year you said it was) Jeep. Drop the $ and change every drop of fluid in it. Better safe than sorry!

Better safe than sorry!I bought it from teh original owner who religiously changed the oil at jiffy lube every three months even though he hardly drove it. It was last done in Oct and looks perfectly clean so I'll let it go another few months.

The fuel problem im guessing is just this new fuel.Ever since they started putting ethanol in,if i let the wag sit for a week it cranks forever before it starts.but if i drive it every couple of days it fires right up.never did this before i could let it sit a month and it fire right up.

Here's a trick we use on carbed vehicles when installing auto start. You will need a 2 button remote setup for this. Take a electric door lock solenoid and mount it on a plate alongside the carb. Attach the rod to the linkage on the carb. Run the power for the motor to the secondary activation wire on the remote start. This way you can push the button to pump the gas a couple times then hit the remote start button. It can also be a blast to play with when someone walks by and the motor revs up with nobody in the vehicle. :D
