Well despite the rain I went ahead and picked up the 5.3L Vortec. Its not as pretty as some of those crate motors and the guy cut alot of wires when he pulled the engine but it will do for the price. $550 got me the block wiring with ecu 4l60e and a GM 246 TC. We did break a coil back when he was hoisting it into my truck bed :( but other than than that it seems all in order. Not sure when I'll be able to begin the swap as I am ill equipped but I wanted to go ahead and lay on the engine for the price he was asking before someone else got a hold of it. Snapped a few pics..... I probably should come up with a more ingenious way of storing it than the back of the F-150 with a tarp sometime soonish......

Good choice. I put a 2003 5.3 in the wife's YJ. it is a nice running motor. Note that you will have challenges with the throttle cable, mostly trying to get enough pull at the pedal. Are you going with an intank pump or on the frame rail? Last thing, upgrade ALL of your fuel lines to 3/8" plumbing. It will wake that engine up!

To be honest I hadn't thought any of this through that far yet. I am not the most able mechanic haha

I posted a link earlier for a killer wiring diagram resource if you are thinking about modifying your harness yourself.

Here it is-

Don't waste money on an after market harness. GM did all the hard work for you already. The vortec ECm is really almost a stand alone system. Get the underhood power center, plug the factory harness into it. Then, it's a matter of a few grounds, a switched 12v and a start signal. Using the factory battery cables makes it even easier.

Did you get it unloaded from your truck.

Ha nope. I got it bundled up under that tarp. I am trying to find a cherry picker right now.

If you can't get it unloaded let me know haha No! you cant have it . Just kidding. I just havent gotten a cherry picker yet... if you someone i could borrow one from or even maybe rent that would be helpfull. I have a small house and no garage just a carport I could probably just keep it there and work on it, I don't think anyone will be that likely to steal a heavy !$# motor like that.

next time you have to transport a motor, find a used pickup truck tire with no wheel. place the motor/tranny in it so the dip in the oil pan sits right in the middle of the tire. then just strap it to keep it upright.

looks like a nice score tho!
