My transfer case needs a rebuild... am I understanding correctly that new cones cannot be found to replace them? What does one do if that is the case?

there is someone who rebuilds the diffs...look in this site for a link a few weeks back or I think it's willysamerica???
costs 325 IIRC.
Otherwise, replace the chain, run the right fluid and call it a day. Just know your TC is is not differentiated. Use the e drive when you need 4wd.
Or buy the PT kit- there's lots of opinions on that. I have it, not impressed w/the OD.

All this is great info ....
So, these "differentials" inside the transfer case are like regular differentials in the sense that they have a long service life? If I rebuild my transfer case it is most likely the differential is still good and doesnt neccesarily require "new cones" ?

I have a functional (bench tested) clutch unit for sale for much less than those other units. I also have tons of other Q-trac parts as well if you need something. Email me for details.

If I rebuild my transfer case it is most likely the differential is still good and doesnt neccesarily require "new cones" ?IF they are maintained with the proper QT fluid and regular service... they can last a long time and give you YEARS of durable service.... however... the QT was given a bad rep when people thought a QT was like any ohter case and just put gear oil or ATF in it instead of the required QT fluid. This ultimately destroys the cones and center diff due to lack of proper lubricating qualities.
you can see the damage caused by this on the link to my page that Don S referenced above....
the QT center diff works to differentiate power between the front and rear axle much like a differential in an axle bewteen wheels... the difference is that they break loose at a given torque, allowing all power to transfer to the axle with the LEASE amount of resistance. That is the reason for the E-Drive switch in the glovebox... this switch is vacuum actuated at the QT and uses an internal coupling ring to LOCK the QT output shafts together for a 100% lock... bypassing the brakecones.
I would hit GWAMP up for the QT parts if you need a center diff... bench tested is the best way to get the true life of the center diff...
