hood latch

hey another problem ....earlier tonight i tried to pop the hood on my <87 jeep loredo> and the **** thing came off in my hand.....now how do i open the hood....can i find the wire and pull it? or is there a way to open the hood from outside the vehicle....geez guys i am at my wits end

You can use a long screwdriver or equivalent and push on the latch arm the release wire attches to under the hood to open it.

Yeah that's not a FSJ but I do feel your pain. I also have an itty bitty Jeep(90 XJ) and just went through the broken cable thingie. Remove the panel, handle assembly etc to get access to the cable and cut the cable housing to expose enough cable to grab on to with vise grips or pliers and YANK hard. That'll get the hood open. If the cable broke at the bellcrank end under the hood you're "screwed".
I just replaced the cable and bellcrank today on mine. The stealership has them(2 day special order) still and not to bad a price. About $30 for the cable/handle and $10 for the bellcrank. You may not need that but mine was pretty rusty(ex NH rig). This was on a 4.0L motored rig. I hear but don't know for a fact that the cable system/bellcrank is different on the 2.5L rigs?
